Renée Zellweger has found a keeper. The Oscar-winning actress, 36, married country crooner Kenny Chesney, 37, on Monday after a whirlwind romance.

The couple married on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, where Chesney has a home, the syndicated show The Insider reported Monday. The 15-minute ceremony was attended by family and friends; the bride wore Carolina Herrera, one of her favorite designers; and the groom was barefoot, Insider says.

Her publicist confirmed the marriage Monday night.

The pair met Jan. 15 at the "Concert of Hope" for tsunami relief, Insider says, and became fast friends. Zellweger, a Texas native, is a music fan. She dated Jack White of the White Stripes and was linked to Irish singer Damien Rice. She also dated actor Jim Carrey.

Chesney's 1999 hit You Had Me from Hello was based on Zellweger's famous line from Jerry Maguire. The marriage is the first for both.

ZELLWEGER'S DRESS DESIGNER: 'COUPLE HAS DATED FOR LONG TIME'

Renee Zellweger's wedding dress designer Carolina Herrera has slammed reports her newlywed client has only known new husband, Kenny Chesney, for a few weeks, insisting the pair have dated for "six months, at least."

The blonde actress is one of Herrera's most famous clients, having sported the designer's creations to the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 Academy Awards.

When Zellweger approached Herrera to create a dress for a mystery occasion, the designer admits she suspected the actress was preparing to marry. Zellweger and Chesney married in the Caribbean on Monday.

In an interview with trade newspaper Women's Wear Daily, Herrera explains, "We made it quickly because it was decided in a very quick way. I really didn't know what it was for. I knew it was for a special occasion and deep in me, I knew it was going to be something like a wedding, but I didn't want to ask too much because Renee is very private and she doesn't say too much and I respect that because I'm the same way."

Several newspapers have reported Zellweger and Chesney met at the Concert of Hope tsunami fundraiser concert on January 15, despite only being linked by the press for the first time last week.

However, Herrera claims their relationship has been going much longer, saying, "They love each other and they have been going out for a long time. It's not only two weeks as they say. It's like six months, at least."

Zellweger split from White Stripes frontman Jack White in September after a two-year relationship, while the country singer ended his engagement to Mandy Connor in 2000.

A former lover of Renee Zellweger's new husband has told how he phoned her just days before marrying the Bridget Jones star - but never even mentioned they were dating.

Renee, 36, who has endured a series of failed relationships, married country singer Kenny Chesney on a Caribbean beach last weekend.

But Kenny's ex-fiancee Mandy Weals told The Mail on Sunday that he never once mentioned Renee, let alone their wedding plans, when he called her less than three weeks ago.

Mandy, who had just returned from her honeymoon, told how Kenny quizzed her about her own wedding on a beach in Florida. And she said she was stunned last week when she discovered that Kenny had wed Renee in a virtually identical beach ceremony.

Renee, like Bridget Jones, has struggled to find Mr Right. She dated Jim Carrey and George Clooney, and her on-off two-year engagement to rock star Jack White of the White Stripes ended last year. She has since been linked with Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice.

So her sudden decision to marry a man she met only four months ago has sent shock waves through Hollywood.

Renee and 37-year-old Kenny met in January and announced they were a couple just ten days before their wedding.

First love

He is one of the brightest new stars of country music and last year earned more than £27million.

Hospital administrator Mandy was Kenny's first real love, stealing his heart when he was a student in Tennessee.

In a strange echo of Kenny's courtship of Renee, they instantly fell in love and planned to get married within a year.

But Mandy called off the wedding in November 1998, three weeks before they had been due to walk down the aisle. They carried on living together for two years, but she finally decided four years ago that she could no longer take second place to his music.

Kenny was distraught and wrote a series of emotional songs about their break-up, including his biggest hit I Can't Go There.

Mandy, 36, said that Kenny called her as soon as she returned from her honeymoon with property developer and divorced father of two Jim Conner, 37, whom she married on a tiny beach at Key West on March 30.

Kenny tied the knot in almost identical fashion at his Virgin Islands estate.

Mandy confirmed: "Jim and I wanted a tiny romantic marriage with eight guests, including his daughter Alexis, who's 12, and his nine-year-old son Austin. It was a beautiful ceremony and I wore a short blue dress. "

'I think he will want children soon'

"Jim and I had barely got home when Kenny called to ask all about the wedding. It was a very cordial 20-minute conversation. He and I still care about each other very much. But he never mentioned Renee or that he was getting married to her. In fact, he told me that he was miserable about splitting up with a girl called Alison, who is in her 20s and lives in Florida.

"I was shocked when I heard that he had married Renee. It was the great speed of it."

Mandy, who now lives on a ranch in the Smoky Mountain town of Sevierville, Tennessee, said: "I think he will want children soon. His mother gives him a hard time about it. She wants to be a grandmother."

She also warned Renee: "Women at his concerts would throw themselves at him, even when I was standing right beside him. I'm delighted he has found happiness with Renee. She is one of my favourite actresses and I love the Bridget Jones movies."

But with Kenny's heavy touring and recording schedule and Renee's film commitments, it remains to be seen whether their marriage will have a Hollywood happy ending.

Kenny wooed Renee by email

Kenny Chesney wooed Renee Zellweger with a series of intense emails and and phone calls.

The couple first met in January at a tsunami benefit TV show when he was singing and she was answering telephones.

But, they only began seriously dating last month following several emails and mobile telephone calls from romantic Kenny to Renee.

The Hollywood star finally succumbed to the US country singer's bid to win her hand in marriage and the pair tied the knot before 45 close friends and family on Monday at Kenny's home on the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean.

"People whose lives are lived on the move, the reality of fitting a life into that life, the processes are different. You fit a lot more into phone calls and emails," Kenny's publicist Holly Gleason told the Tennessean newspaper.

Apparently such was the suddenness of the relationship that Kenny didn't even find time to buy Renee an engagement ring.

Chesney, 37, only told members of his band he was getting married at a concert two nights before the wedding when he suddenly announced his decision through their in-ear monitors.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that days before the wedding on a shopping trip in Nashville, Renee was so touched when she overheard a customer in a store talking about her cheating hubby who left her for her best friend that she bought her a 100 dollar gift card.

"Oh honey, I'm so sorry," said Renee, partially disguised in sunglasses and baseball cap, and she handed her the gift card.

The couple were hitched in secret on a Caribbean beach last Monday. But their honeymoon is decidedly less romantic - they've swapped Hollywood glamour for a trailer during Kenny's US tour.

The beautiful actress is reportedly worried Kenny is too controlling and has told pals they were "practically strangers" on their wedding day.

A source revealed: "Renee had never even see him lose his temper before the wedding, but now they're married he seems to think he can tell her what to do. He doesn't like her hanging out with friends and wants to get her away from LA. "
