Iraq: business no-go, and 30,000 children dead by midnight |
| Posted by: h@ts | | Billions of dollars spent on a continuing war in Iraq. 1000's of Iraqis dead or maimed. Over 1500 US troops dead, thousands maimed. The terrorism threat continues to rise worldwide. And "Iraq is by far the most dangerous country to do business."
So billions well spent?
Here's another figure - every day 30,000 Children in Developing Countries die before they make it to 5 years old.

World terror risk 'on the rise'
Iraq had far more attacks than any other country
Iraq is by far the most dangerous country to do business - but global terrorism is also making the rest of the world riskier, a new survey says.

It's also too bad that those developing countries can't do anything about it either. | | Reply To this Message

It is too bad.
There's lots of different ways to deal with terrorism. Bush chose war, violent and expensive in money and lives (and in a country with no connection to the 9/11 attack).
When it comes to attacking countries and starting wars, no cost is too high. When it comes to the wellbeing of people deemed unimportant, any lame excuse will do.

| Posted by: USA1 | | Starving children is a global problem, not just an American one. The main cause is local governments inability to provide for their people. Whether it is healthcare, food, trade, greed or all of the above.
Can America provide for the world? Sure but, why? Isn't that seen as intervention? Do they REALLY want our help or just a handout?
You mentioned China as a dumping ground for cheap labor for American business. Doesn't that in itself provide money and jobs and a better way of life for China?
In your eyes, maybe not huh?
Please tell us all (every country) how to deal with terrorism?
This should be good. | | Reply To this Message

I'm talking about priorities. Countries (not just America) and leaders (Western and those leaders of poor countries) all have priorities, and way down the list of priorities is preventing the daily deaths of 30,000 children before they reach the age of 5 years old. It's scandalous that it's not even scandalous that so many poor children can die ever day.

The Chinese worker will probably get richer and that's no bad thing, but corporations can play one work forces off against another nation's workforce to get more efficiency, therefore upping the profits for a few. For workers elsewhere to compete it's just another backward step toward less security, lower wages, and worsening working conditions. Hasn't anyone noticed how much richer the very rich have become in the last 20 years?

Terrorism's caused by injustice. 30,000 poor children die before they get to their 5th birthday. People get angry and I don't condone terrorism but terrorists don't have to look too far for an excuse to justify their actions. | | Reply To this Message
