CROWDED HOUSE STAR COMMITS SUICIDE
CROWDED HOUSE drummer PAUL HESTER has committed suicide at the age of 46.
The DON'T DREAM IT'S OVER musician sparked alarm when he failed to return home after walking his dogs in a local Melbourne, Australia, park on Saturday night (26MAR05).
Father-of-two Hester was later found dead in Elsternwick Park. Police insist there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, adding that he had been battling depression.
Devastated ex-Crowded House singer NEIL FINN - who's currently on tour with his brother TIM - is due to perform four live dates in London, but is considering returning home to Melbourne today (28MAR05) to mourn his loss.
He says, "I am devastated. I have lost one of my best mates."
Hester's close pal PETER GREEN - who works for Neil Finn - has described Hester as a joker on stage and off, claiming the drummer had been in good spirits in recent times: "Paul had some dark moments. Some good days and some bad days, like all of us."
Hester played the drums for Crowded House until 1994 and provided the beats for predecessors SPLIT ENZ from 1983 to 1984. Since quitting the music industry, Hester has worked as a session drummer and a cafe owner.
