Man tries to steal gun to "rescue" Shiavo |
| Posted by: chelktty | | SEMINOLE, Fla. (AP) — A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo," authorities said.
Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall's Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell, 50, told deputies he wanted to "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo" after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said.
The feeding tube that has kept Schiavo alive for more than a decade was removed March 18 over objections from her parents. Schiavo's husband has said his wife would not want to be kept alive artificially.
Doctors have said she would probably die within a week or two of the tube being pulled.
Randy McKenzie, the owner of Randall's Firearms, said Mitchell pulled out the box cutter and broke the glass on a couple of display cases.
"He told me if I wasn't on Terri's side then I wasn't on God's side, either," McKenzie told The Associated Press.
McKenzie said he then pointed his own gun at Mitchell and ordered him to lie on the ground. But Mitchell fled out the store's back door before police arrived, he said.
Mitchell was later arrested in a parking lot and was scheduled to appear in court Friday. He was being held on $125,000 bond on charges of attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault and criminal mischief, officials said.
It was not known if he had a lawyer.

| Posted by: mystic | | Im still confused over this argument that taking the tube out is against God's wishes...
I mean God didnt put the tube in there himself...so if God has a plan, how does it fit that God would be okay with putting it in and not taking it out?
Someone is gonna have to explain that one...and explain it good enough for me to buy this argument because as of now...it is an argument of convenience for these religious right-to-life groups. | | Reply To this Message

Mystic, it isn't a good arguement.
They don't have a leg to stand on.
There is nothing in the Bible to support these arguements either.
Like I always do, I take on a way of thinking for a few days just to see where it's coming from. From there I am able to see whether its true or not.
For a Christian to get all riled up about physical life rather than eternal life is unscriptural. They are focusing on that which we are not to focus on.
My Pastor warned us months ago about this happening and how its going to increase in the future. The Christian right focusing on everything except what we are taught in the Bible to focus on. "Jesus and everything else." And the Christian right is focusing on "everything else."
I programmed my TV to skip over news stations and I am avoiding the news like the plague. I don't recommend that for everyone, but for me right now I have to unplug from the media. I don't want to get caught up in this trap.

| Posted by: chelktty | | Actually if you think about it Mystic, any measure that the doctors took 15 years ago when Terri had the heart attack would be against God's will.... If it was God that determined she should die, the procedures performed on her to resusitate would be against his wishes. It drives me nuts when people are so arrogant to presume to know the mind and will of God.
There's another guy in North Carolina who was arrested for soliciting Michael Shiavo's murder online. He also offered $50,000 for the murder of the judge who ordered the tube removed. Unbelievable isn't it??? | | Reply To this Message

His will be done, forever and ever.
How can we presume to get in the way of His will?
If and when she dies soon....it will be His will that she dies. | | Reply To this Message

Thats just it! I dont get their motives in this case. It makes no sense.

We are taught from the Bible that in the last days there will be a falling away from the truth, those who profess to be Christians will do and teach so many false things against the word of God.
That's the symptom.
And the cause....motives?
They are being led astray in their own churches...televangelism. They latch onto "causes" that have nothing to do with the word of God. They believe their fight and struggle is with other "ungodly" men when the Bible teaches us that we war and struggle against satan and his demons. They forget that this is His war and not ours. They forget that we are like lambs to the slaughter. They forget that we are taught to lead others to Christ and not to look at others as our enemy...since we were once in their shoes. Where is the love, the compassion?
Instead they focus on acquiring a kingdom on this earth with money and fame through ministry and politics and the flesh instead of warring through prayer in the spirit. Their focus is on this world and not the world to come.
Lord help us all.
