Britney Spears Eyes 'Wicked' Role

'The Insider' correspondent Marc Malkin reports that Britney Spears has expressed interest in starring as the green witch in the film version of the Broadway hit 'Wicked'.

"She is obsessed with the musical," a source told Malkin. "She listens to the CD all the time in her car. She bought 10 copies of the CD at a mall to give as gifts."

I can't really see Britney on stage like that. She does alright in her concerts, but she can be very unpredictable and that's not something you want in a performer who's part of a regular theatre production.

Rue McClanahan Joins Cast of "Wicked"

The former Golden Girl is about to get a little tainted as she is set to join the cast of the Broadway musical Wicked.

The Emmy-winning actress begins performances as Madame Morrible on May 31. That same day, standby Megan Hilty will take over the role of Glinda and Ben Vereen will star as The Wizard.

Rue is no stranger to Broadway. McClanahan made her Broadway debut as Hazel in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in 1964. Her other Broadway credits include a lot of other shows we've never heard of because we may be gay, but we're not old and gay.

Britney Spears has been rumored to have expressed interest in starring in Wicked, one of her favorite musicals.
