The reconstruction of post-war Iraq is in danger of becoming "the biggest corruption scandal in history", Transparency International has warned.

...the body is critical of the United States' handling of the reconstruction process, arguing that its process for awarding public contracts was secretive and favoured a small number of large firms.

The Pentagon stood accused of sitting on a damaging report from its own auditors on a $108.4m (£56.6m) overcharge by Halliburton for its services in Iraq yesterday.

"The evidence suggests that the US used Iraqi oil proceeds to overpay Halliburton and then sought to hide the evidence of these overcharges from the international auditors," the letter says.

Is what we have here the biggest gangster operation ever? And does anyone ever wonder why Iraq and not Saudi Arabia was targetted in the war against terrorism?

Bremmer, before he left, put in place laws that would make sure corporations had the freedom to clean up in Iraq.

Bremmer's law Order #39 allows for the following:
(1) privatization of Iraq's 200 state-owned enterprises
(2) 100 percent foreign ownership of Iraqi businesses
(3) "national treatment" of foreign firms (or our laws not theirs)
(4) unrestricted, tax-free remittance of all profits and other funds
(5) 40-year ownership licenses.

If this proves to be truthful, it's exactly what many have been saying about the motives for invading.

The visions of Corporate Utopia in all its splendor as we watched it all unfold before our eyes while singing a different song about WMD and free elections and Iraq. None of this could have ever taken place under dictatorship but democracy is ripe for such conditions.

However, even if this is proven to be true, the minds of those who sup on delusions of divine righteousness will never accept it.

The right-wingers don't want to hear this, there are elections in Iraq, after all.

I don't know if any of you have noticed, but I've been pulling away from having any conviction for or against the war in Iraq, and simply viewing anything I see on the news, read on the internet, or hear from other people as propoganda. Hey, I've never been to Iraq. I've never seen an oil drill. I've never been on the moon. I've never met Saddam Hussien.

The only things I've really been considering lately are people's reactions to news. Rather, "news".

The only thing I really know is that I know nothing. I'm just a coisidential manifestation in the center of the universe.

There is so much going on, most people will never know.

And most people who claim to know it all usually don't know the half of it.

I suppose we can all agree about the bias usually peddled by the media. It is a hard task to find truth and objective account of facts. But if anyone's opinion is to be considered as propaganda .... Sayzak I guess that I understand what you mean but, well, democracy as we know it is supposed to be the expression of people's opinions.
I write intendedly "supposed" because to a large extent we are all more or less influenced by bias and propaganda, despite our demand of truth.
