Sam Simon’s MJ Memories

Simpsons creator Sam Simon was on Howard Stern this morning, sharing some very special memories of Michael Jackson’s celebrated appearance on the show, a lovable turn as an animated mental patient with a shaved head.

Sam said he brought the script over to Jackson’s place to see if he’d be interested in doing it and Jackson was. His only reservation was that he wanted more scenes with Bart Simpson, his favorite character on the show. He demanded the script be changed so his character could spend more time with Bart. According to Sam, they changed the script, giving Jackson a scene where he spends the night alone with Bart in his room. Jackson agreed to the change and signed on to do the show. Sam also added that during the voice recording, someone gave Jackson a giant Bart Simpson doll and when he thought no one was looking, Jackson started to kiss the doll.

Is that really what he said happened? Defamer isn't exactly a well-known, respected source. It sounds a bit convenient that he kissed the doll and asked to lseep in Bart's room, especially seeing as this all came out AFTER these details were revealed in court.

Well, he doesn't really spend the night in Bart's room, but it's suggested maybe they spent the night working on the song for Lisa... which probably wasn't in the bedroom, but the lounge.

Kind of a funny story though

No he is nothing like Michael in the Simpsons. It's a mental patient who thinks he is Michael Jackson, or a guy who is pretending to be a mental patient who thinks he's Michael, if you get technical.

Defamer is like a Hollywood-esque version of The Onion. It's made-up.

And Michael Jackson wasn't on the show, it was an impersonated voice.

I had heard before that Michael Jackson did do the voice. He only refused to sing the "Happy Birthday Lisa" song. The song was done by an impersonator.

That'd be correct. Everything but the singing on the show is really him.

Stark Raving Dad (#7F24) 19 Sep 1991 - The Simpsons Archive

Thanks to Bart leaving his lucky red hat in the load of washed white shirts, Homer wears a pink shirt to the nuclear power plant. He is promptly committed to a mental institution, where he meets up with a white man (Leon Kompowski) who walks and talks like Michael Jackson.

NOTES: Michael Jackson voices Leon Kompowski when he sounds like Michael Jackson
(uncredited).

Who is John Jay Smith?

When Matt Groening appeared on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno (who is a
Simpsons fan) asked him if it really was Michael Jackson. Groening
answered that he is legally restrained from confirming it. But he
hinted very strongly that it indeed was the Gloved One.

Paul Jeong (pjeong@oahu.cs.ucla.edu) reports from an appearance at
UCLA of Matt Groening, Nancy Cartwright, and other members of the
staff. (David Silverman is a UCLA alumnus.)

Someone asked if Michael Jackson really did the voice. They were
silent for a long while, and then they said they can't legally say
whether it was Michael or not. Then they went on about how they hate
using fake names. Then they said, read between the lines. (Wink
wink.) And then they said how they never turned down a guest
apperance...and one guy remarks, ``Hey, didn't Michael Jackson want to
be on The Simpsons?'' Read between <these> lines...

What do you want us to do, hit you over the head?

So it's still only maybe? I think it was Michael.

Did anyone see the Itchy And Scratchy movie episode?

When Lisa comes back from seeing the movie she says: "You wouldn't believe the celebrities who did cameos! Dustin Hoffman, Michael Jackson. Of course, they didn't use their real names, but you could tell it was them."

It's a joke, as both Michael and Dustin appeared in the simpsons, but neither used their real name.
