near the end of 'Fistful of Dollars' the Man With No Name helps that lady and her husband and kid escape.

The lady asks "Why do you do this for us?"

The Man With No Name replies "Why? Because I knew someone like you once, but no one was there to help?"

I have always wondered who he was talking about.

Maybe he was talking about his mother.

Great thread, Dekka. Especially since it reminded me of a glaring omission in my life.

I am ashamed to say I've never seen "Fistful of Dollars". Have to fix that soon.

But even without having seen that, I think it's still safe to say that 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' may be the coolest movie ever. So much greatness there I don't know where to begin. So I'm not gonna even try. I trust somebody will.

I have often thought of starting a Good the bad and the ugly thread, but I didn't think I could do it justice.

I'm just a dude.

It's my favorite movie, with the Matrix a close second.

At one time, I was going to do a scene by scene account of the final gunfight in the GBU, but it would be very time consuming.

That sequence is the best filmed, most intense part of any movie in all of known history.

It just works on so many levels.

Really, I got to much to say, and I'm long winded about the whole thing.

I may just add this thread to my link list in my signiature and come back here and post a little each day, till I get it out of my system.

One of the movies, I think it may have been A FFD, had a deleted scene with Eastwood and a hooker in bed. The American film industry said to get rid of it and it got edited out.

And lost forever.

I have seen a still pic of it on some website a long time ago. If it was from Dollars, he may have been talking about the hooker.

But I dunno.

My favorite scene of the trilogy, of any movie for that matter, is when,

Angel eyes is very very slowly inching towards his gun in the last gun fight of the good the bad and the ugly.

You can see his chopped off finger. You can see the bullets on his gun belt.

That hand is barely moving toward the gun.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/Whidden/cleefgun.jpg

The shot moves to Blondie, who is looking straight ahead at Tuco.

Blondie then flicks those eyes over to Lee Van Cleef,

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/Whidden/clintlook.jpg

then it cuts to Angel Eyes, who starts backing off his hand from the gun and gets this look on his face like he almost messed up.

It's the most bad *** scene ever.

It's like Angel eyes is going for it, then Clint gives him that stare, saying back off, and he does back off, cause he knows whats up.

That whole gunfight is so well concieved. 3 gunfighters, and who knows who is going to shoot who.

Of course we find out later that Clint cheated and unloaded Tuco's gun,

but the audience don't know that.

They see 3 guys looking back and forth at each other, wondering who is going to shoot who.

One of the greatest qutoes ever. From Fistful Of Dollars

Man With No Name: "I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it."

..............and then he straight-up kills 'em all.

Couple o' things...

1) Lee Van Cleef is in both "Good Bad and Ugly" and also "For a Few Dollars More"

is he playing the same character? or does it simply happen to be the same actor?

2) (For Whizzle specifically, but anyone who happens to be reading this thread) have you seen "One-Eyed Jacks?"

it's a good movie, good movie. I bought it for a dollar at walmart. here is what it says on the back

One Eyed Jacks is an underrated and highly influential Western saga featuring Marlon Brando in both a starring and producing role. Brando plays Rio, an embittered bandit who lives only to take vengeance upon his former partner, the sadistic Dad Longworth, played by Karl Malden. Longworth, it seems, once betrayed Rio, which resulted in Rio serving time. Upon his release, Rio seeks out Longworth (now a wealthy sheriff) leading to a violent clash with unexpected results. One Eyed Jacks is epic in scope and is seen today by some film historians as serving as an important bridge between the traditional westerns of the fifties and the grittier storytelling style of the sixties popularized by dierctors such as Sergio Leone, Sergio Corbucci and Giuliano Carimineo.

Yeah, it's just the same actor.

It's a trilogy, but they are not really true sequels, 3 differents movies.

Kinda strange how they did it. having the Man with no name, part of all 3, the same character, but not a true continuation of the story.

I guess, if you "want" to make them a true trilogy, we could surmise that "Angel Eyes" is the Colonel's Twin brother. (Lee Van Cleef in For a Few Dollars more).

i saw 'one eyed jacks' a long time ago. I remember Brando throwing over a table and yelling, "you scum sucking pig!"

Man he looked mean in that movie, and karl Maldens blue eyes were Ice cold when he was taunting him in the cell.

Also I remember the ocean and the waves, but I only saw it once, i wouldn't mind buying it.

I don't remember much of the plot.

Great movies really - they are also mythical here in Europe. Leone has re-invented the western. A genius.

I would love to visit Spain, where they were filmed, and tour the cemetery where they have the shoot out at the end of GBU.

That is really neat looking country.
