"Michael Was Set Up" - James Brown |
| Posted by: schmiggens | | James Brown Says Michael Jackson Was 'Set Up'
The "Godfather of Soul" is coming to the aid of the "King of Pop."
In a phone interview with The Associated Press from tsunami-ravaged south Asia, James Brown said Michael Jackson should be helping with relief efforts in Indonesia instead of defending himself in a California courtroom against child molestation charges.
Brown said he believes Jackson was "set up" like many entertainers who are believed to have a lot of money.
Brown is in Indonesia to bring attention and support to the areas hit by the tsunamis in December.
Coming off prostate cancer surgery in December, Brown, 71, also said in the interview that he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.
He said he "feels good" and showed no ill effects during his performance Friday night in Jakarta.
Brown said he has made his reputation as a person who helps others and describes himself as being "like Moses in the music business."
Also known as "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business" and "Soul Brother No. 1," Brown has recorded such classic hits as "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "Cold Sweat" and "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag."

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Fair enough that James Brown is helping Tsunami ravaged Asia and fair enough if he think that Michael was set up.
But he shouldn't say it in such a way that makes it sound as though this Court case is keeping Michael from helping the Tsunami victims. Michael could do both. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | Well, that's true, he could donate money. I think what the honourable Mr Brown is trying to say is Michael Jackson could be out there raising moral; or recording a We Are The World 2005 (which'd probably end up being a Puff Daddy Remix of some sort...). He can't do either of those at the moment. But it's true, he could donate a whole heap-a money if he wanted to.

| Posted by: hellokittykelli | | MJ has links to tsunami aid sites on his major world wide sites.
But really, as a compilation of todays artists and some legends...MJ wouldn't really fit in at this moment. Lets face it, sponsors are avoiding MJ like the plague cause he's not good for positive business.
His fans would buy it, but as far as appealing to the general public, I think it would be too contraversial. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: oneofpeace | | Good point kittykelly. MJ has had image problems for the last 15 yrs. The allegations against him in 93 and the present certainly aren’t helping much like you’ve said.
Quite frankly besides his diehard fan base, MJ is tired. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still very talented but old. He is a dying commodity because of his inability to adapt to the changes in the music world.
I mean, how many times can we see the moonwalk or him kick that skinny leg in the air and offbeat wardrobe without it becoming mundane? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Inner City Blues | | Very true, my sister pointed that out about Jackson back in 1995 when he released HIStory. His music hasn't really changed, but I will say that his last album, Invincible, was an underrated album because it finally showed some adaptation to the changed music world and it was pretty good. It's just that the critics were too busy commenting on his plastic surgery instead of the music on the album.
Michael needs to learn from Janet Jackson who really knows how to adapt with the times and is very successful at it. That is one reason why Janet Jackson still is popular and her music reaches new people other than die-hard fans. | | Reply To this Message
