| I haven't stopped downloading--but downloading isn't the chief concern that the RIAA is looking for. Actually, the way that it's going the RIAA is targeting people who UPLOAD "sustantial" amounts of files. The RIAA is getting on the case of people who DISTRIBUTE material, and so far nothing about people who download (as of yet--this could change).
In another words, this means start taking things out of your "shared folder" and start being a leech. What I've done is I've taken out all of the copyright songs/vids and put it in a folder on my desktop that it not shared, but I've left other things in there like anime songs/vids.
RIAA stands for recording-industries-association of America, so it mainly deals with copyright songs of American artists, and not so much with foreign/international material.
This means that you should be careful what you share, and when you do share, make sure that you share a minimal amount of copyrighted material to be safe. Also, don't share too much, because supposedly the more you share, the more the RIAA will come after you because it's more noticeable.
I really hate taking things out of my "shared folder" and not sharing, but what it comes down to is that I don't want a law suit on my hands.
The RIAA can't get all of us, but for those of us that are pursued, there's a hefty fine.
Just some friendly advice for a fellow file-sharer ^_^
