Crossroads has similarities with script for Dream Alive?

Britney Spears and movie bosses are being sued by a scriptwriter. Christopher Merrill claims he came up for the idea for Spears' debut teen drama Crossroads, reports the Splash news agency.

He claims there are 'shocking similarities' between the movie and his script for 'Dream Alive'. Mr Merrill has launched a multi-million dollar lawsuit in Los Angeles, California.

There are shocking similarities betweenjust about every movie that is released these days. I can't remember the last time I saw something original.

Why would you want to claim responsibility for Crossroads anyway?

BRITNEY HIT WITH LAWSUIT OVER CROSSROADS

BRITNEY SPEARS has been slapped with a $30 million (GBP15.7 million) lawsuit over her 2002 movie debut CROSSROADS, by a man who claims his idea for the film was stolen.

The TOXIC singer is being sued along with PARAMOUNT PICTURES and MTV by CHRISTOPHER MERRILL, who alleges the movie is substantially similar to a script he submitted, called DREAM ALIVE long before Crossroads' release.

He tells American TV show CELEBRITY JUSTICE, "We were working on this case for almost three years. We've been trying to negotiate with MTV and other production companies but they haven't responded."

Merrill's attorney adds, "There's no question that they took his material."

Really he should just sue the writers/ producers. How was Britney to know the idea for the movie had been stolen? Was Britney supposed to check that no one had ever had an idea about a female teen road trip movie?
I don't think so. This is a stupid law suit.
