Agreement to reduce global warming |
| Posted by: Oliphaunt | | I heard recently that over 200 countries across the worl have signed an agreement to reduce global warming, but America, the country that produces the most harmful gases, didn't sign. George Bush's excuse? "It would affect the economy". Well I'm sorry, but there won't be an economy soon if we don't do something about global warming.
I was also told by a friend of mine that after 9/11, when all the planes were grounded for a couple of weeks, the temperature of the Earths atmosphere went down by 2 degrees. That's alot. | | Reply To this Message

Government and business with vision and an objective for long-term-sustainability? Surely ye jest.

This is likely an unsubstantiated exaggeration. There's no way in heck the entire atmosphere could change by 2 degrees as a result of grounding aircraft.
Anyway, it'd help if you posted some references when you post messages like this.

| Posted by: Oliphaunt | | Yeah, I know, I'm sorry, but I don't know where to find news reports and stuff like that. I'm not that great with that sort of thing. And I agree, the 2 degrees does sound like an exaggeration.
Anyway, here's a link to an article about the agreement.

And sorry, it was 34 countries, not 200 . My imagination must have run away with me. But it's 30 now anyway, since America, Australia, Monaco and Lichienstein (sp?) pulled out. | | Reply To this Message

Most of the population agrees that we are destroying the ozone layer with our constant usages of harmful gases such as
Carbon monixode.
How long can this continue before we have to say, enough is enough? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: MikeTheGenius | | Yeah that’s true. Many sources have confirmed that US is the world’s biggest pollutant country. So being the biggest pollutant, US should also do most measures to reduce Global Warming. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: WillJ | | Until it's proven (and no, it hasn't been yet, despite Al Gore's reasoning) empirically by non-U.N. scientists (because the U.N. has a history of, ho ho, "releasing" scientists that bring up evidence to the contrary) that global warming is entirely, or predominantly, or even at all, a man-made phenomenon I can't blame Bush for saying that.
Do I think it's man-made? Absolutely. Do I have proof? No. | | Reply To this Message
