Best pal 50 Cent reckons rapper is just like tennis ace
HAVE Eminem and 50 Cent fallen out? Well, the white rapper's protˇgˇ has likened Eminem to female tennis ace Serena Williams.
But don't worry, Eminem's plea in Like Toy Soldiers to stop rappers fighting each other hasn't been ignored by his best mate. It seems 50 Cent reckons that comparing the man who helped make him big to a female tennis pro is a compliment.
The rapper has defended Eminem's success in a predominately black rap genre and said: 'I think Em is like Serena Williams, the tennis player. There's no particular gender or race which is supposed to be involved in things, it's universal. Music is universal. Em happens to be one of the best writers I've ever come across. Not many people are as talented.'
Eminem signed 50 Cent to his Shady Records label, releasing the hugely successful album Get Rich Or Die Tryin' with its anthem In Da Club. The pair are still big pals and it seems Eminem phones 50 Cent every day.
Born Curtis Jackson, 50 said: 'We speak to each other every other day, usually about nothing. He'll call and I'll say, 'what's going on'? He'll say, 'nothing'. I'll say, 'well what do you want?'. He calls because he knows he can say whatever. He can have nothing to do and say, 'I'm going to call 50'. I credit everything that's going on with me to Em - he gave me a shot.'
A new single, Candy Shop, from 50 Cent is out on March 21 with album The Massacre released March 7.
Like Eminem, who turned actor for a film based on his early life, 50 will appear in a film about his life. He was raised by his gran after his mum died when he was eight, his dad walked out. The rapper also survived after being shot nine times.
But despite his background and big frame, 50 claims he's not a gangster. He added: 'I had to be two people growing up. I had to be aggressive enough to get by in my environment and I had to be my grandmother's baby when I was in the house.'
