We have heard one figure from the right that says close to 160,000 Iraqi's are trained for military service and have heard another figure from the left that says only 6,000 to 8,000 are trainied.

Which is right?

General Robert Scales pronounced, both are correct.
Here's why;

There are close to 160,000 who have completed their version of boot camp/basic training. These can pick up a gun and go to war.

Of those 160,000 there are close to 60,000 to 90,000 currently in specialized training. These are being trained as commandos or or groups that can function as a unit with an advisor or may have 1 coalition member per unit.

The 6,000 to 8,000 mentioned by the left are those who are completly trained and can function as trainers or leaders.

So depending on the point you want to make you can pick your number. If you want to say that we are doing a bad job than you pick the lower number. If you want to say we are doing well, then you pick the higher number and if you are fairly neutral than maybe you pick that number in the middle.

Bottom line is that they are all correct.
