| Angelina Jolie launches new centre for refugees
Angelina Jolie was in Washington yesterday (08.03.05) to help launch a new centre for refugees.
The stunning actress, who is a UN ambassador, has given more than $3million to the effort, including $500,000 to help set up an organisation that will provide free legal aid to the thousands of children who arrive alone to the United States each year as refugees and immigrants.
In a speech at the National Press Club, Angelina, who has a three-year-old adopted Cambodian son, Maddox, spoke of her disgust at the way some children are treated when they arrive.
She said: "I can't believe that any of us would expect that it's reasonable to send a child to face this by themselves. I actually think it's cruel."
The Oscar-winning beauty also revealed she is keen to adopt again as Maddox wanted an "African brother".
Last November, Angelina delayed adopting another child until later this year after her attempts to gain custody of a Russian baby failed.
The pillow-lipped beauty said she was going to wait another six months before going through process again, as she didn't believe Maddox was ready for a sibling.
She said at the time: "I was going to adopt this other child in Russia, but it didn't work out, so I may adopt another in about six months. I don't think Maddox is quite ready for a sibling just yet."
