Liveblogging: Paris Hilton on 'Ellen'

Promoting her third season of American terror, Paris Hilton drops in on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for Ellen's birthday.

4:30pm Good Morning America staff, including crazy cameraman guy, dance in a tribute to Ellen's birthday. White people are funny.

4:31 Simple Life clip airs, showing Paris and Nicole Richie throwing mail into random slots (and a fridge) in lieu of actually sorting it. The office workers can sort it themselves, they reason: "On their lunch break they'll be like, 'Here's your mail.'" Then in storms their boss, who says their actions are "really, really not cool." Really not cool, indeed.

4:32: Paris enters stage right, looking classy (gasp!) and bearing gifts, wearing a modest blue top and white pleated skirt. First word to Ellen: "Yeah." This girl is brilliant. Ellen opens her gift box, revealing a pink shirt with "blonde" written across the front, plus a pair of pink kicks. Ellen invites herself along to go out with Paris; Paris feigns enthusiasm.

4:33 Ellen gives Paris a gift from her 99 Cent Store shopping spree, shown earlier on the show. Paris reminds viewers it's not just her sex that she likes cheap: "I like to go to Chinatown in San Francisco, 'cause it's cheap fun stuff." Ellen gives Paris a pink feather duster ("I know you don't clean, but somebody can use it"), a pink oven mitt with "princess" written on it, and a pink handbug ("Sexy," says Paris). Ellen advises: "You can have your Sidekick hold this," to which Paris replies, in character, "That's hot."

4:34 Quick banter about Paris' new house in L.A. "My room is totally pink .. bed .. drapes .. Tinkerbell's little bed."

4:35: Ellen broaches the subject of marriage and children, this could get ugly. By 26, Paris wants to be married with kids (hey, if Britney can do it!). Ellen asks who will marry Paris with all that pink, reminding her "Carson from Queer Eye is not avilable."

4:36 With her heavy workload, Paris says "I'm too tired [to go out and party] now." What does she miss most? "Dancing and having fun" - which activates the alarm bell on set, as Paris uttered today's "myster word" ("dance"), which forces to Crate & Barrel to give audience members a $50 gift card. Oh, and the entire audience will get a bottle of Paris' perfume. Was Jonathan Cheban involved in this?.

4:37: Cut to break. Rose from The Golden Girls reminds Ellen to milk her birthday for all it's worth and "dance for the whole damn hour."

4:40 More Simple Life shots: Paris and Nicole leaning over a copy machine, making appropriate use of dead trees by copying their body parts, and another shot of them wearing orange vests while directing traffic in Jersey, which is a lost cause for anyone, not just these two.

4:41 Paris agrees to wear something Ellen-esque since Ellen agreed to let the heiress outfit her Paris-style later in the show.

4:42 Cutting to commercial, Ellen's mom wishes her a happy birthday. "I am such a lucky mom. I'm proud of you." Aww, so it's you who gave her the dancing gene!

Much more from after the break is after the jump.

4:46: Ciara performs a terrible rendition of "One-Two Step." Lots of hip shaking and booty bouncing, plus "background vocals" dropping out.

4:52: Back from break, Paris is wearing one of Ellen's pinstriped grey pantsuit and a white blouse. "Are you read to see your hot host?" she taunts us.

4:53: The screen is pulled back to reveal Ellen decked out in a red flowery frock (with way too many sequins for Lindsay Lohan not "not partying" in a 50 foot radius), large white hangbag stiched with a "7," and flared jeans. "This is actually the most comfortable I've ever been in an outfit," says Paris. Yes, but you always look pretty comfortable out of outfits too. "I was supposed to wear this without jeans," jokes Ellen, and we're certainly glad she made the right call.

4:54: More commercialism for the audience! Everyone in the audience gets a $100 AmEx gift card, probably part of Ellen's contract with the credit card company.

4:58 Ciara and Paris bring out a huge birthday cake, with a statue of Ellen on top. It's hard to cut into, but hey, so is Hollywood.

Tune in to Fox at 9 tonight for The Simple Life: Interns premiere. And right afterward at 10pm, you can watch Katie Couric on NBC host The 4-1-1: Teens & Sex, where teens talk about high school hookups and parents remain in denial.
