Latin passion met Irish charm on Saturday, when Jennifer Lopez and U2 stepped out for the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes. The chart-topping stars were among of host of top names who took to the red carpet for France's glitzy answer to the Grammys.
J-Lo, in a white tuxedo with black lapels, electrified the crowd with a performance of her new single Get Right, before R&B sensation Usher took to the stage with his monster hit Yeah. The audience was also treated to a powerful performance from Alicia Keys, who belted out If I Ain't Got You.
The 23-year-old's vocal talents weren't enough to stop Avril Lavigne beating her to the gong for best international female, though. Hip-hop stars The Black-Eyed Peas meanwhile took the trophy for international album, thanks to their global hit Elephunk
British boy-band Blue will no doubt have been delighted after they managed to beat rock veterans U2 to the gong for best international group. The Irish rockers didn't go home empty-handed, though, because they were named winners of the annual event's special achievement trophy.
After accepting the award from supermodel Naomi Campbell, frontman Bono admitted to being a Frenchman at heart. "I'm not from this country, but I'll make a little confession to you," he said. "It's at the Côte d'Azur I feel at home.”
