Paris Hilton's embarrassment and anger over her XXX sex tape finally got the best of the heiress at a Hollywood newsstand she frequents.
In a sudden act caught on video surveillance cameras, Hilton tore up a poster advertising 1 Night in Paris and stole a copy of the infamous movie shot by ex-flame Rick Salomon and sold without her permission! The tape is a best seller, with close to half a million copies sold so far.
Paris' ordeal occurred on Dec. 15, shortly after she and pals entered Swing News on Sunset Boulevard in L.A. around 3:30 p.m. to buy celebrity magazines, according to the clerk on duty.
"She appeared to be in a good mood and even posed for a picture with me for my celeb scrapbook," the clerk said. "But as she was setting some magazines down by the cash register, she saw that we were selling her DVD in our adult magazine section. She went from nice to nuts instantly."
Paris, 23, was reportedly concerned some of her "young fans" who shop at the store might see it and get the wrong impression of her. And she added that she felt betrayed that the store would be selling the DVD even though she shops there "all of the time."
CAUGHT ON TAPE
Although the clerk tried to appease Paris by placing the DVD in a cubbyhole, Paris saw the poster for the X-rated movie on the side of an ATM in the shop and began shredding it. Her sympathetic friends tried to help by grabbing another Hilton poster, but had to give up as it was chained to the ceiling.
As Paris paid for her magazines, she "reached across the desk and snatched the DVD out of its hiding place," the clerk said. "She stuffed it into her purse and declared, 'I'm taking this and I'm not paying for it.'"
The clerk said he called the police and filed a victim's report for theft and vandalism.
If the reminder of her past mistakes was not enough, six days later on Dec. 21, Paris was again subjected to embarrassment. As she signed autographs outside trendy restaurant Koi in L.A., one fan surprised her by asking her to sign what appeared to be a slightly risque picture of herself.
With the smile quickly disappearing from her face, Paris tore the photo and got into her car.

When we first heard that Paris Hilton nabbed a copy of her sex video from a WeHo newsstand, we said, "Wow, that wacky Paris is at it again!" and tucked away a link to the story in a Short Ends post, thinking that was the end of it. After all, what's a little petty theft between publicity-hungry celebutantes and hapless newsstand owners? But here's the thing:The newsstand owner has videotape of Paris (oh! the irony is crippling!) and the LA County sheriff wants to throw the book at her. As much as the public might salivate over another Winona Ryder-style witch-hunt, The Beverly Hills DA probably won't want to play into Hilton's porno-stained hands. Think about how many copies the hot, lesbian, weave-yanking action of 1 Night in Prison would sell.
Oh, did we mention there's video of the heist going down?

Paris Hilton to Face Charges of Theft and Vandalism?
"Celebrity Justice" has exclusively obtained surveillance video showing Paris Hilton's alleged hissy fit at a West Hollywood newsstand. Now, the Los Angeles County sheriff wants Paris prosecuted for what the tape shows.
Jerry Castro, an employee at the Swing News newsstand, was there when Paris stopped by in mid-December. Castro told us that Paris went ballistic when she spotted her infamous X-rated video on sale there. "We took a picture together," Castro recalled. "But as soon as she saw that we were selling her videos and we had her on display she was livid. She was using profanity to the ultimate."
Castro continued, "She points to the poster and says 'Look at what the **** they're doing to me here. Don't you know my young fans come here all the time?'"
The surveillance video seems to back up Castro's story that Paris tried to rip up a poster. The video shows that when Paris goes to pay for several magazines, she can be seen reaching over the counter and grabbing what appears to be a DVD, which Castro told us was her "One Night in Paris" video.
According to Castro, "She threw her eighty cents change at me and took the video and said, 'I'm taking this and I'm not buying it.'"
Sources have told "CJ" that the LA County sheriff's department will refer the case to the Beverly Hills district attorney's office this week, and recommend that the pretty heiress be charged with petty theft and vandalism.
Hollywood criminal defense attorney Steve Cron told us that, ultimately, the DA's office will decide whether or not to file charges, but that if they do, the punishment could be tough, even though the potential charges are just misdemeanors. "Petty theft has a maximum sentence of six months in jail," Cron observed. "Vandalism has a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a one thousand dollar fine."
But Cron speculated that Paris wouldn't be likely to be living "The Simple Life" behind bars. "They might bring her in with her lawyer and say 'If you're good for the next year we're going to let this go. On the other hand, if there's any problems from you we're going to bring up this case as well as any new cases that come up during this time period.'"

Prosecutors today said they will not file charges against Paris Hilton stemming from an incident at a news-stand in which she allegedly pocketed a copy of her homemade sex video without paying.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office dropped the case for lack of evidence after investigating the hotel heiress for suspicion of petty theft.
“The evidence presented is not of such convincing force that a reasonable and objective jury would unanimously agree that the suspect is guilty,” said Irene Wakabayashi of the district attorney’s office.
The investigation stemmed from a December 15 run-in between Hilton and a West Hollywood news-stand dealer, who was selling copies of her infamous video, One Night in Paris.
The sex tape surfaced in 2003 just before the start of Hilton’s reality TV series The Simple Life. She has said she was embarrassed and humiliated that the tape ever became public.
A security video obtained by the TV show Celebrity Justice appeared to show Hilton grabbing the video and walking off after buying several magazines.
Gerry Castro, an employee at Swing News, told the show at the time that Hilton became furious after spotting the video for sale.

I thought they had photos of her stealing it?
And they could easily pick a jury that would want to see Paris Hilton put away or made to pay up for this.
