'Idol's' Simon Slams Beyonce; Defends Ashlee

One of music's harshest critics doesn't think Beyonce is so bootylicious.

Simon Cowell, the notorious 'negative Nancy' FOX's "American Idol," has some choice words about the 23-year-old singer.

"I find the whole Beyonce thing really mystifying," Cowell told Esquire magazine. "She's not sexy, she hasn't got a great body and she's not a great singer."

But Cowell defends a more maligned figure -- Ashlee Simpson, who caught plenty of flak after being caught lip-synching on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" last year.

"Why should you have to do something substandard just for the sake of being real? If it sounds better with the vocal you recorded, why shouldn't people listen to that? There's almost a witch-hunt mentality about people miming," Cowell claims.

In fact, the British talent judge came out swinging on all subjects.

On President Bush: "He could almost be a robot."

On marriage: "At the end of the day, it's an incredibly unfair contract."

On France: "We (the British) have hated the French for years. Now you (the United States) have just joined the club. It makes you much more likable."

The fourth season of "American Idol" kicks off Tuesday night.

Beyonce is sexy, and she certainly can sing. Simon would be extremely lucky to have someone with as much natural talent as Beyonce come through the auditions on Idol.

As far as Ashlee goes, he says he would prefer sounding real over sounding good. That doesn't sound like Simon at all; he loves to bully people because they sound bad, it's his job I am sure he wouldn't be so lenient if Ashlee was auditioning for Idol.

Simon Cowell's an idiot who got lucky in his career. His attitude stinks (at least, his public persona does), and I think this is just a publicity stunt to get people talking about him as AI4 starts up. What respected pop & R&B music critic would say that Beyonce is not a great singer? She might not be diva quality in the sense of holding long, powerful, sustained high notes like Mariah or Whitney, but she's done her OWN thing, and she's done it in a way that has made most of america love her style. Argue with THAT, Simon.

i like simon cowell well i thought i liked him he was honest about most people but beyonce can really honestly sing and ashlee simpson.......yeah rite simon!
