50 Cent Pushes Back Release Of New Album

Rapper 50 Cent has pushed back the release of his sophomore album, St. Valentine's Day Massacre, to March 8 from its originally scheduled February 15 release date. The rapper said in a released statement, "Look out, I'm about to do it again." The rapper's 2003 debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin', has sold more than six million copies since its release.

50 Cent will release the album's official lead single, "Candy Shop" featuring Olivia, in the coming weeks. The rapper has already leaked one song, "Disco Inferno," to radio.

St. Valentine's Day Massacre will also include the controversial song, "Piggy Bank," which includes disses of Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Ja Rule, Nas, and Kelis.

In related news, 50 Cent will be joining The Game for a performance of their hit, "How We Do" on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live this Friday, January 14 (check your local listings for time and channel).

It's actually Gatman and Robbin' ... like stealing things

The album has been pulled forward once again, because it was leaked to the internet early. Pretty crummy stuff, if you ask me, but maybe his fans'll like it.

50 Cent Moves Up "Massacre"

http://cache.eonline.com/News/Photos/5/50.cent.022405.jpg

Stop us if you've heard this one before: A high-profile hip-hop album's street date is being moved up due to Internet piracy concerns.

The Massacre, the highly anticipated sophomore release from 50 Cent, will now drop Mar. 3, instead of Mar. 8, Interscope announced Thursday.

"50 Cent is linked so closely to the streets that we have to react quickly when his album surfaces illegally," says Interscope marketing executive Steve Berman in a press release. "The best way to combat piracy problems is by getting the real version into stores with all the exclusive content and special packaging that comes with it."

Fiddy himself chimed in, saying "fans want instant gratification, especially when they are fending for my music. They'll even risk buying the wrong s--t from bootleggers. I want them to have the real thing as soon as possible."

This marks the third time the disc's debut has been changed. The set, originally titled St. Valentine's Day Massacre, was originally scheduled to arrive in stores Feb. 15. Last month, Interscope pushed back the release to Mar. 8.

The Dr. Dre-produced Massacre is just one of several notable discs to have street dates pushed up a few days. In November, Interscope moved up the release date for Eminem's Encore amid similar piracy concerns.

Although Fiddy's label is clearly worried about large-scale Internet piracy, music biz insiders are somewhat skeptical of Interscope's sky-is-falling fears regarding The Massacre. "50 Cent's record has leaked," says Eric Garland, CEO of the online music market research and marketing consulting firm Big Champagne. "However, by the numbers, people have been cherry-picking the hits from the record for weeks. Although this can hurt first-week sales, statistically, the number of people who actually download an entire record are still relatively small."

Regardless of when the disc ultimately hits stores, the pressure is on for the Queens-born rapper to match the sales of his massive 2003 debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Get Rich was 2003's best-selling release and spawned monster tracks like "In Da Club," "P.I.M.P" and "Wanksta."

Fiddy's latest is expected to top of the charts on the strength of his number one single "Candy Shop," cameos from the likes of Oscar nominated actor (and budding R&B star) Jamie Foxx and early street buzz from cuts like the controversial diss track "Piggy Bank," which reportedly takes swipes at Fat Joe, Ja Rule and the recently hitched Nas and Kelis.

Interscope also announced Thursday that 250,000 special limited-edition Digipack versions of The Massacre are being manufactured. These include a CD key that will unlock exclusive content including a bonus track, a trailer for 50 Cent's upcoming videogame, Bullet Proof, and many uncensored photographs.

No word on where the "uncensored" photographs come from, but it's possible they stem from Fiddy's recent X-rated video shoot for "Disco Inferno." The rapper shot an underground video with several porn stars and members of his G-Unit posse last month at Los Angeles' Concorde nightclub and may release the racy video on a yet-to-be announced DVD package sometime this year.

Meanwhile, the laconic rap megastar is set to join Massacre's other executive producer, Eminem, on the Detroit star's Sirius satellite radio station, Shade 45. Sirius announced Thursday that G-Unit Radio will take over Shade 45 all day on Saturdays. Sirius says Fiddy will be in Shade 45's proverbial house this Friday at 8 p.m. ET, offering up "exclusive commentary from his new album."

50 Cent's The Massacre Makes Huge Chart Debut

G-Unit captain's second album sells more than 1.1 million copies to land at #1.

50 Cent's The Massacre

50 Cent spotted the rest of the music industry two days ... and he still crushed all comers.

The beefy, beefing MC released his second album, The Massacre, on Thursday (everyone else stuck to the traditional Tuesday release date), but still managed to sell more than 1.1 million copies of the disc, scoring the biggest debut of 2005 and — almost as an afterthought — the top spot on next week's Billboard albums chart, according to SoundScan.

But selling 1 million out of the gate wasn't Fiddy's only accomplishment. Last week, he made chart history, becoming the first solo artist ever to have three singles in Billboard's top five in the same week, with "Candy Shop" coming in at #1 and "Disco Inferno" taking the #5 slot; he also appears on the #4 song, "How We Do," from former G-Unit member the Game's album The Documentary.

Coming in at a distant (way distant) #2 was Jennifer Lopez, who sold more than 260,000 copies of her Rebirth album. But the runner-up slot must be a somewhat uncomfortable seat for J. Lo: Her 2001 album, J.Lo, debuted at #1, and 2002's This Is Me ... Then sold more than 314,000 copies in its first week of release.

Jack Johnson is next, selling more than 228,000 copies of his third studio album, In Between Dreams. The surfer/acoustic dude tallied the biggest opening of his career with Dreams, almost doubling the first-week numbers of his last LP, 2003's On and On.

And proving that there's still a market for punk-prog-rock, the Mars Volta's Frances the Mute debuts at #4, selling more than 123,000 copies. To say that Frances' bow is a shock is a bit of an understatement: The band's first album, 2003's De-Loused in the Comatorium, opened at #39, selling just over 29,000 copies. Frances is also without a doubt the only album in the top 10 to feature a 32-minute closing track (beat that, 50 ...).

After all these debuts, it's good to see a familiar face near the top of the chart. The Game sold more than 99,000 copies of his album The Documentary to land in the #5 spot. Just behind him are Green Day, whose American Idiot sold more than 86,000 copies in its 24th week of release.

The late, great Ray Charles' final studio album, Genius Loves Company, comes in at #7, selling more than 80,000 copies and inching closer to the 3-million mark in total sales. Falling to #8 is last week's chart champ, Omarion, whose album O sold more than 76,000 copies in its second week of release, a sales dip of almost 60 percent.

Kelly Clarkson is next at #9, selling more than 62,000 copies of her Breakaway album. And rounding out the top 10 is Eminem, whose Encore sold more than 60,000 copies.
