Don't ya'll think da music's been weak lately? I mean, there's nothing really going on. Not much talent out there. I miss hearing peeps like Total, Mary J, Timbaland, Horace Brown, 112, Faith Evans, TLC.
I ain't really feelin' this "crunk" music. It's mostly a bunch of noise to me. It's like, "people are listening to you, and this is all you gotta say?" It's a waste of everyone's time. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | I agree about crunk, it's crud, but I don't particular miss Horace Brown or Faith Evans. 112 were okay, Part III was great, and they're just not going to be that good again... and Mary J was great when she first came out, but she hasn't made great music in a looong time. Total weren't amazing, and Timbaland's style is only good in small doses. TLC are basically fine, but their older music is just something that can't be brought up to a modern setting without making it "crunk"....
On that note, I wanna say not all music's been like that lately. There's been a few good albums released in the past year.
New Edition came back and released One Love which has new amazing tracks by Jam and Lewis, who have been running on cold in recent years.
Mike Winans released an awesome album in 2003.
Ace from public announcement released 2 fantastic albums (one in 2003, one in 2004).
Anthony Hamilton brought music back to what it was supposed to be with Comin' From Where I Come From...
R. Kelly had "Happy People / U Saved Me", and if you didn't like the stepping, you were bound to like the gospel stuff.
Silk had another great album in 2003.
Gerald Levert released is first good album since the 90's just a few months ago.
The Isley Brothers had their Body Kiss album, which kicked butt, in 2003.
Keith Martin released 2 albums in the past year, both of which were exceptional.
There's also a lot more out there... just gotta look for it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | Yup, they are still around. Their albums:
Lose Control (1993, I think. Maybe '92)
Silk (1995)
Tonight (1999)
Love Session (2001)
Silktime (2003)
My favorite is still their self-titled album, but since "Tonight" they've used the same producer, Daryl Delite Allemby, for majority of their tracks. Silk's voices and Allemby's productions mesh quite well. Though on their latest album they did an amazing remake of Blue Magic's Sideshow, produced by Keith Sweat (who wrote and produced most of their first album, including "Freak Me"... well, he was the one who discovered them, so a nice reunion on such an amazing song). | | Reply To this Message
