I love Aragorn because he has a wonderful heart. He follows his heart... and the path of the King that he is meant to be.

I love Legolas because he's everything that I've ever pictured an elf to be.

i like legolas because i wish i could shoot arrows and stuff like that! even though it's acting it's still tight.

Legolas rocks. And he is GREAT with his bow. I can't even think about how many arrows he can release per minute during war... but it is a lot.

Who cares who is gay and who ain't gay (I know he is ) But he plays and excellent role in everything he is in IAN Mckellen RULES HE is a brillian actor and he pulls Gandalf off perfectly not to mention Magnito, has anyone seen Last Action Hero...he is death...he is a great actor, so unless you want a personal relationship with him leave his personal life out, and focus on his on screen performances!!!!

Aragorn and Gandalf. Ian was the perfect Gandalf. Aragorn for his strenght and dignity. Honor, which is such a rare thing this day.

Gandalf. No question. I mean, come on, have any of you people who say Legolas even read the books? He's not that big or great of a character, really, people just think he's good-looking. Me, I don't know. He's not bad, I suppose, but certaintly nothing to be squealing over.

no 1 has said this character yet but from the movies i would have to say Galadriel..i dont know there is just something about her...but my all time fav is Legolas but i guess that has something 2 do with Orlando Bloom..form the books i would have to say Frodo..u cant go past the Ring-bearer..and let me say Elijah Wood and Sean Astin did great jobs as did all the other actors...of course Orlando Bloom too

Haldir is my favorite, but galadriel is right behind him, she is some hot stuff yo', but then comes legolas then aragorn, but gimli is some cool **** too man, its hard to pick which is my favorite out of the 'big three'

Gollum is my favourite character, i think he was done really well in the movies, I was really worried when I heard that they were remaking the books into movies, i thought they would short-change the gollum character, but they did really well, that bit where he talks to himself was the best bit.

I love Liv Tyler as much as the next person and think that she is beautiful and a great actor, so this is not a comment on her, but I hate Arwen, I hate her, hate her, I see no reason at all for her be such a big part of the movies.

It is a waste of space that could have been used for things more important to the story and more true to the books.

GIBLI.... coz he is the only one keeping a bit of humour in the films

Aragon is my fave character.

I like Merry and Pippen too, they offer good comic relief to an otherwise dark story.

hmmm...lets see...Saruman, cuz he's played by Christopher Lee..who is awsome...uhm...the Witch King, cuz he's evil, and powerful.
on the lighter side, i like Treebeard..not really the movie version which is ok, i like the book version. he's so cool. go ENTS w00t!
any 1 of the hobbits...the things they go through are incredible...oo..theoden...i love the book and movie versions of him...there's just something incredibly human about him that i don't seem to get from the others.

Yeah, maybe he was even her cousin, i definitely gotta re-read the books for the film coming. And Faramir was great. Definitely better in the books than depicted in the movie.

I want to re read the whole trilogy before I go see ROTK. Do you think I have enough time?

If you take few weeks off from your job/school and spend as less time on eating and sleeping as possible, i think you could. But just in case, i'll read RotK first.

I guess I only have a week, huh? Well I work 50 hours a week and I have Christmas stuff coming up, so I guess I won't have time. That's what I can do this winter. I'll start with the Hobbit and go through the whole series. Sounds like a plan!

Eowyns brother is Eomer. I would start reading now if you want to get through it in time. It all depends on how fast you read and how much time you have. I finished the book in a few days, but I am a very fast reader.

Hey I've just been made a Veteran!

My kids are 4 and 2 so LOTR is out. Heck, I am still debating if we should take my son to see the next HP when he turns 5-he is a huge fan.

Without a doubt...Smeagol/Gollum, is the most interesteing character in the whole movie. He aims to please, but at the same time he has that inner conflict going on. All he wants is his "precious" just give it to him for the love of God!

BTW, there's something about Gollum that's kind of interesting... i think he might be based on a character from an old, old book. Has anyone of you read 'Aulularia' by Plautus?? The play is a classic piece about - well, a stingy old man. The way he acts when it comes to his *gold* are so definitely Gollum-ish. But anyway, just a thought...

Never heard of it, but it definitely sounds Gollumish. Hey, I remember walking out of the theater with my friends and I heard several females saying that they thought Smeagol was cute!? That is kind of sick! I think he's cool, but cute?

That is sick, although i can understand it in a way. People just want to believe there's something good in Gollum. Just because he's so weak and low. They pity him i guess. Strange , but understandable in a way.

I think a lot of us can relate to Gollum. We all want to be good people. However, we all have some vice that causes us to act ugly sometimes.

Uh... okay! Gollum is cool, but he was twisted by greed and corruption (sounds like all the police around here), and we all know what happens to Gollum in the end, right?

I completely accept the way that Tokien wrote his books and I respect his ending. However, I would've liked it if Gollum, or Smeogol, would've been freed from the corruption by Frodo and Sam's love and friendship.

I agree, in a perfect world, that is how it would have happened... but... let's not forget that Smegol IS fully corrupted... he has very little good inside of him and not enough to overcome his greed and avarice!

That's true!!! Anger and Greed kept Gollum going long after Bilbo snatched the ring from him, so that's sort of impressive! Heather, you're a die hard romantic, always rooting for the underdog type, huh?

I think Smeagol should've won! Granted, the ring eventually would have ended up back in Saurons possesion... but, all Smeagol wanted to do was take his "Precious" back to his mountain lair and look at it. He didn't even wear it, the goofy bastich just liked to look at it! Harmless in it's own right!

Added thought... Smeagol did kill off his cousin Deagol because he was crazy for it in an instant!

I never thought Smeagol was a saint. I was just surprised at how many people really like him. The rabbit part was funny.

I think that everyone liked him because just like everyone else... he is a walking contradiction...There were times people were probably hoping that he would just grab one of the Hobbits and wring their necks or stomps their "eyeses" out. But, then there were people like Heather, who truly wanted to believe that their was some latent good in Smeagol and he would become so due to the kindness shown to him by Frodo and Sam.

Um, okay?!!! Legolas is cool, granted. But I don't like Arwen (even though she is pretty fine), or Aragorn! I guess I like the Gollum because he is really evil but can be good when he wins an arguement with himself on occassion. I always root for the bad guy! I don't like Sauron though, or Sarumon.

Wow. You don't like Aragorn. I had no idea people did not like him. I just love him. He has a quiet dignity and the sense when to use his power.

Nope! Too predictible! You never know whether Smeagol is Smeagol or Gollum unless he' s threatening to stomp someone! He's unpredictible, I think, so that is one of the characteristics that I find cool about him... that, and he doesn't like Sam...I hate Sam...Anti-Sam!!!

Frodo needs Sam. They are true and loyal friends. That is an important point in the story.

P.S. It is cool that someone likes Smeagol/Gollum.

sam would be one of my fave's but for one thing. in the book, he ultimately seals gollums fate by never cutting him any slack. although without gollum, Frodo's quest would have been a failure.

And I guess, without Smeagol, the two Hobbits would have been wandering around for too long...boring movie that would be. But... I still think Gollum should have stomped out the "stupid fat hobbits' eyeses!"

I think that Sam is probably one the most important characters in the book.

yeah as frodo said "Frodo wouldn't have gotten very far with out sam." if it weren't for him, frodo wouldn't have gotten anywhere near Mt. Doom, or even Mordor for that matter.
heh i think my favorite part between those two is whn Sam says "well i may not be able to carry your burden, but i can still carry you." and then proceeds to carry Frodo up the slopes.

First movie: Pippin
Second Movie: Gollum
Third Movie: Sam (by far)

Sam, hands down. I don't believe I need to repeat myself into what has been said in other post. Frodo would be DEAD with out Sam, would be a proper way of saying it

Faramir

He's so noble and sad - even more so in the book.

He takes upon him the task of soldiering, and does it well, despite the fact he doesn't like to kill; and when he rides out the last time, he knows it means death (well, thanks to Tolkien, he gets away, but he doesn't know ), and yet he never even blames this sad excuse of a father.

And David Wenham is just fine in the role.

The movie doesn't really show how important Merry and Pippin are, but if you read the books, they are almost as important as Sam or Aragorn.

Pippin just has an innocence that makes him so funny....the movies and books would not ave been the same without him...

In the book Merry plots Frodo's escape from the Shire. In the movie it is portrayed that Merry and Pippin just happen upon this adventure unintentionally. The movie audience don't get to appreciate Meriadoc Brandybuck's importance. And What about Fatty? The movie doesn't mention him does it?

Merry and Pippin, especially Pippin, offer great comic relief. I love when they are into Farmer Maggot's crop in the first movie. That is so typically Hobbit-like!

Aragorn is awsome and is my favorite character. Gimli comes in second because i feel bad for him. his entire race of dworfs were killed in that cave battle and he is all thats left. third place is Legolas, because he reminds me of Spoc from Star Trek with the pointy ears

I felt bad for Gimli. That was a sad part of the film. He was soo excited to go there and then when he gets there it's a tomb. :-(

yeah, i liked that scene because it shows Gimli's softer side. he is always ready to fight and has his war face on, then he is sad and crying a few minutes later. good transformation in character i think.

Good acting

heather, yes Farmer Maggot is a hobbit, no they didn't mention fatty in the movie, and no that's not farmer maggot who's says there arent' any baggins' here.

I do agree that Sam was important in his own right...but I still don't like the guy! To each his own, though...because I didn't really like any of the Hobbits, to tell you the truth...though I know that they all had a part to play. I have never liked the Hobbits since first reading "The Hobbit!" They're trixie and false!

Pippin! Pippin! Pippin! in all three movies! he is THE best character without a doubt!

i still think that sean astin was absolutely amazing in the third movie. no one could have been a better sam there is no one!!!!! i think he deserves an academy award for his preformance. it blew me away.

ah yes the ents...bwahahaah...its sorta funny if you read the books before you saw the movies. cuz in FOTR when saruman's cutting down all those trees you're thinking "and you wonder why the ents got mad saruman"

Why didn't the Ents realize this sooner anyway? I mean, Treebeard gets all emotional stating "many of these trees were my friends!" It didn't take him all that long to get involved once he realized his friends were firewood!

I liked Sam and I agree that he was very important, but no more important that Merry and Frodo.

You forgot Pippen! Together, the four of them almost made one Aragorn, or Legolas, or even the loudly breathing dwarf Gimli! They all had their part...but who was your ultimately favorite character.

Smeogal is my favorite. I partial to the hobbits. I like Merry too, and of course Frodo. The hobbits are the heart of the story, but they get overshadowed by the big people.

i'd have to say my favorite character is Merry, although Pippin's transition through the films was awseome....i also love sam, because no matter what he sticks with frodo and he's got a big heart--he deserves more credit...

Gollum is definitely my favorite, but I like Frodo too. He's the hero of the story. And Merry is under appreciated.

he's not as mean to sam in the book as he is in the movie. thats just pj being wierd. in the book the only times he gets mad at sam are when sam asks to carry the ring. other than that, he and sam make a wonderful pair. and what did you mean by "act all hero like"?

he makes such a big deal about him being the only one that can carry the ring and he has to make all the important decisions, like when sam tries to tell him about Gollum. All he does is bring the ring to Mt Doom and yes i know that is the point of the story, but he can never do anything for himself, he always needs sam to pull him out of sticky spots because he is too weak. hope that clarifies.....

Legolas is still a bada$s and easy to use in the game...but...I know think that Gandalf is pretty cool...I mean, any guy who makes his own fireworks is alright in my book, but I can slam that game from start to finish now in less that half an hour using Gandalf!
