| THEY'VE GOT IT SO EASY
Kylie slams pop wannabes
KYLIE MINOGUE has blasted wannabe pop stars from TV shows such as X Factor for wanting fame and fortune too easily and not being prepared to ride the tough times.
The singer has managed to survive in the cut--throat music business for more than 18 years and has just released her greatest hits album.
But she has urged contestants not to assume it is a life of luxury if they become famous and successful.
The 36-year-old star, who first released a song in the UK in1988, said: 'It was hard work. If any of the youngsters think it's all about designer labels and limos and lifestyles of the rich and famous, they are mistaken.
'I guess like most jobs you have that five or 10 per cent where it's really fun and that's why you do it, but the rest of the time ... there's another five or 10 per cent that I just despise.
'There have been times during the past 18 years when I've encountered less--than-pleasant people. And you have to deal with them.'
The Australian beauty says she has a 'Shetland Pony attitude' which gets her through the tough times - but she is critical of the up--and-coming stars of the future.
Kylie said: 'With the young ones, it seems like they've done it for a year and they're like, 'Oh, I don't wanna do it.' 'Picture doing it for nearly 20 years. I have been around a long time. You know me. We have a history together.
'I remember the old Smash Hits days when all I'd be asked is, 'what's your favourite colour?' She said she found it tough starting out in the pop world when she worked with Stock, Aitken and Waterman, even though she recorded four No.1 hits, five No. 2 songs and one No. 4 track.
Her debut single I Should Be So Lucky was the UK's biggest- selling hit of 1988, but it still didn't make her life easy.
Kylie added: 'It sounds fabulous. But, especially in Australia, where pop music wasn't popular anyway, no radio stations would play it.
'It was more about credibility. You were in a band, you'd done the pub scene for five or ten years and that's how you earned your stripes.
'I can understand how they got their feathers ruffled: 'What? Charlene from Neighbours? She's No.1.' 'That was really hurtful for me at the time and there is still a tiny little bit of me that still feels ... well, 'the pain' sounds too dramatic, but it did hurt.'
The singer is to embark next March on a new European tour, called Showgirl, but that also brings problems for her.
In an interview in the latest GQ magazine (January issue), Kylie said she has a fear of falling ill and not being able to perform, adding: 'It happens every time and, of course, it's the obsession with falling ill that ends up making me ill.
'I'm a performer. Even though I don't know why sometimes.'
