LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An underground subculture of teenage girls who bond over their eating disorders and glorify bone-thin celebrities has surfaced on the Internet, in a growing trend that experts say frustrates treatment.

I have an acquaintance who matches the description of these girls, only she's 26 years old, not some little teenager. It's understandable that young kids can become misguided and are in need of help - but how do people of intelligence end up suffering from the same problem?
I find it strange that they are in pursuit of some "look" that they think is attractive (somehow), but I can guarantee a poll of the male community would reveal a 99% confirmation that NOBODY considers it attractive - so where's the motivation? Seriously mental stuff and very hard to comprehend.. and sad all at once! | |
