The Santa Monica Police Department seek to arrest G-Unit rapper Young Buck for the alleged stabbing of a Los Angeles man at the Vibe Awards, which were taped on Monday evening.
After viewing the show footage, taped by several cameras, police charged that the 23-year-old rapper (real name Darnell Brown) stabbed 26-year-old Jimmy James Johnson after the man attacked producer Dr. Dre.
Johnson approached Dre as the producer was accepting a Vibe award and acted as if he wanted an autograph, but began punching the Compton-bred beat maker when he got close to him.
At that point, dozens of people began to fight. Police said that Young Buck and three other unidentified men wielded knives in the Santa Monica Municipal Airport hangar.
Subsequently, Buck, who has had minor offenses in the past, now faces assault with a deadly weapon charges. Jones sustained a collapsed lung and is currently in stable condition.
At a press conference, J.T. Butts of the Santa Monica PD gave a detailed explanation of why the Nashville native rapper was charged in the event.
"Mr. Brown is seen lunging over another male and swinging the knife at Mr. Johnson's upper body while Johnson is looking away from him. He is clearly depicted holding the knife after the assault and was a number of fight participants sprayed by pepper spray. Brown then fled the scene and was not identified until earlier this morning," Butts said. "We are asking Mr. Brown to surrender himself to the Santa Monica Police Department immediately."
The police also said that they were not immediately able to establish in link between Jones and Suge Knight, who has expressed contempt for Dre in the past.
Butts said that other arrests were forthcoming after further review of the incident.
Presently, neither Young Buck or G-Unit had a comment on the matter.

Eminem has blasted those at the centre of Monday night's Vibe music awards violence, and called for a blanket truce in the hip-hop world.
The rapper admits he was "disgusted" by what he saw on late night news bulletins when the Santa Monica, California, ceremony turned into a huge fight involving his mentor Dr Dre and pal 50 Cent.
And he explains it's that level of violence in the hip-hop world which inspired him to write Toy soldiers on his new album Encore.
Speaking on yesterday's Total request live on MTV, Eminem said, "The whole concept behind Toy Soldiers was to put an end to basically what we saw last night, which disgusted me.
"It's like when LL (Cool J) and Kool Moe Dee were feuding, it didn't have to come to this. This was stupid. Before it comes to this, let's stop it right now in hip- hop."

G-Unit
Rapper Young Buck has given himself up to police after being suspected of stabbing a fan at the Vibe Awards earlier this week.
The performer is one of the members of 50 Cent's posse G-Unit. He joined the group, replacing original member Tony Yayo who was sentenced to prison for gun possession.
Young Buck was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after stabbing the fan last Monday (Nov. 15) at the awards in Santa Monica.
The 23 year old rapper was released after posting $500,000 bail. He will face court of December 20.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | SUGE KNIGHT UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR DR. DRE ATTACK
Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight is under investigation by the police, following allegations he was involved in the Vibe Awards violence.
During the Los Angeles ceremony, Knight's former Death Row Records partner Dr. Dre was struck twice, triggering a melee in which Dre's attacker was stabbed and seriously injured.
Dre, real name Andre Young, met with officials late Monday at the Santa Monica police station, where he demanded that his alleged attacker, Jimmy "James" Johnson, be charged with assault and battery.
But Knight is also in trouble, because when he was released from prison in 2001 after serving time for assault and weapons violations, the conditions of his parole reportedly banned him from having any contact with Dre.
Alfred Martinez, Los Angeles regional parole administrator for the Corrections Department, tells the Los Angeles Times, "We are conducting an investigation to determine whether any parole violations took place with [Knight] at the awards show.
"Mr. Knight has some special conditions attached to his parole, and we are working with the Santa Monica police to evaluate all the circumstances that took place that evening."

| Posted by: pink_cashmere | | Of course, Mr. Knight has som "special conditions" attached to his parole....if I were affilated w/ a gang and knew members of the police were also involved...I'd have it made too. Suge should still be in jail and probably did arrange this altercation or at least played some role in it. | | Reply To this Message

Rapper Young Buck was charged Monday with stabbing a fellow performer in a dispute that led to a melee at last month's Vibe Awards.
The G-Unit member, real name David Darnell Brown, attacked rapper Jimmy James Johnson after Johnson was refused an autograph by Dr. Dre and then punched the rap veteran in the face, say prosecutors.
Dre, real name Andre Young, was waiting to receive a lifetime achievement award from Snoop Dogg and Quincy Jones at the November 15 ceremony in Santa Monica, Calif., but was caught up in the brawl before taking to the stage.
The dispute set off a chair-throwing brawl that spread through the audience of about 1,000, but did not halt the ceremony.
Johnson was arrested and remains in custody on a suspected parole violation, say prosecutors.
Young Buck, 23, faces up to eight years in prison if convicted of the charges filed today. He remains free on $500,000 bail and is set to be arraigned late Monday.

Young Buck
Even though he was reportedly caught on tape, Young Buck isn't fessing up to the stabbing that took place at last year's Vibe Awards. For the record, the guy he stabbed also isn't taking the blame for starting a brawl by allegedly punching Dr. Dre square in the face.
Young Buck, known to the authorities as David Darnell Brown, pleaded not guilty on Friday (January 14)to an assault charge for stabbing Jimmy James Johnson during the November 15 awards show. Johnson also entered a not guilty plea on assault.
To recap, Young Buck is accused of stabbing Johnson, who is accused of clocking Dr. Dre as the rap legend was preparing to accept a lifetime achievement award. This set the crowd off into a brawl, which almost stopped the entire show and had to be controlled by security with pepper-spray.
To add a little fuel to the soap opera, Johnson is now reportedly claiming that Suge Knight paid him to hit Dre so that Knight could embarrass his long-time adversary. Knight denies the accusation, though he was present at the Vibe Awards despite not being invited. Knight was also sitting near Dre, though he was not supposed to go anywhere near his rival as part of his parole agreement.
According to the Associated Press, Young Buck refused to speak to reporters outside the courthouse Friday, but did stop long enough to promote his CD, Straight Outta Ca$hville, which has been in stores since August.
Buck is currently out after paying the $500,000 bail set by the judge. He has been using his free time to record new material and spend time on the set of his G Unit companion 50 Cent’s video shoot.
The rapper is due back in court on February 18, where it will be decided whether there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial. If Young Buck is found guilty he faces up to eight years in jail.

KNIGHT ACCUSED OF FINANCING DRE ASSAULT
Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight paid Jimmy Jones Johnson $5,000 to assault rapper Dr. Dre at the Vibe Awards in November -- according to Johnson himself.
Johnson has told police Knight hired him to harm and embarrass his former Death Row Records partner Dre -- who has a restraining order against the hip-hop boss -- as he accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award at the Santa Monica, Calif., ceremony.
Knight's lawyer has blasted the claims, stating "there is absolutely no truth to it. I am so confident that there is no issue."
With a criminal record filled with past felonies, Johnson -- who was allegedly stabbed after he punched Dr. Dre -- is facing life imprisonment, reports Web site AllHipHop.com.
Meanwhile, rapper Young Buck pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges he assaulted Johnson with a knife at the event.
