FORGET his hard-man rapper image — EMINEM is really a softie at heart.

He has revealed he never misses his daughter’s school plays and has even read storybooks to her class.

It turns out that Em, who has full custody of Hailie — his daughter with ex-wife Kim Mathers — is the model dad.

He said: “In school, when they have plays and field trips, I don’t miss them, even if I’ve got to deal with the craziness.

“Last year I went and read to the class. Two books. It was reading month or something.”

Ahh, how sweet!

Hip-hop star Eminem is dispelling his hardman image, by joining his daughter Hailie's school trips and reading to her classmates.

The rapper, real name Marshall Mathers III, is deeply involved in the 8-year-old girl's life since he won full custody of her following his divorce from troubled ex-wife Kim, who's served prison time on drug-related offenses.

Eminem enthuses, "In school, when they have plays and field trips, I don't miss them. Even if I've got to deal with craziness. Last year I went and read to the class. Two books. It was reading month or something."

I think it's great that even a rapper with a "hard" image can take time out and spend it with his little girl. He might even make involved parenting cool!

Eminem struggles to explain ex's problems to his daughter

Rapper Eminem was at a rare loss for words when he had to explain his former wife's legal troubles to their daughter Hailie.

The Without Me star's ex, Kim Mathers, has been in and out of jail and on the run from police over the past year after being found guilty of drug charges.

And Eminem struggled to explain to Hailie why her mother was absent.

He explains: "Trying to explain that…was one of the hardest things I ever had to go through. You can never let a child feel that it's her fault for what's goin' on.

"You just gotta let her know, 'Mom has a problem, she's sick, and it's not because she doesn't love you. She loves you, but she's sick right now.'"

EMINEM: 'HAILIE KEEPS ME IN CHECK'

Eminem relies on his daughter Hailie to keep him out of trouble. The superstar is devoted to the 8-year-old and puts her before fame, fortune and his music career.

He says, "[bleep] all the [bleep] and fame. Hailie is far more important. She keeps me from being too extreme. I realize that no matter how crazy I act on stage or how wild I may get, there has got to be a limit. Her father has to remain alive and with her every step of the way."
