It is a useful medicine, but it should not be over the counter. Too many people will ignore the warnings and not take it properly. It is best used by people who have been to a doctor. This is emergency contraception.

It's been available over the counter in Australia for about 8 months now. It's certainly more convenient.

Most girls who need it, need it after a big Friday night of Saturday night and it can be hard to find doctors who bulk-bill on a weekend, so you have to pay outright for the doctor visit ($40.00) and then pay for the pill ($40.00). Whereas with it available over the counter, you only have to pay once.

The chemists are still required to fill out a form and go through what happened with you, tell you about the risks and side effects and what you should do so that you don't need the morning after pill again, etc. So it's just as safe as getting it from a doctor.

well to all that replied i agree with you but i still think the pill should only be given to those that need it in serious cases like (rape)

Unfortunately, in that mode of thinking, a lot of people could say that condoms shouldn't be used, except in rape

Then why can't the morning after pill be used to teach people to have protected sex?

I wonder what aisle it would be on... would it be next to the condoms and spermicides? Next to the pregnancy tests? Or will it be one of the "over the counter" items that's protected from theft behind the counter with the pharmacy?

They would have to have it behind the counter. Wouldn't they need to read the information and sign a form to get it?

We have to sign a form and get a lecture from the pharmacist before we get it.
