Jessica Simpson will perform at a benefit concert on May 22nd in New York City's Central Park. The pop princess will headline the Play Safe in the Park Concert, an event that will donate partial proceeds to the Skin Cancer Foundation.
The date falls amid a summer full of appearances for the star of MTV's Newlyweds. On May 13th she'll appear on On-Air With Ryan Seacrest, followed by a string of radio shows in Pasadena, California (KIIS FM's Wango Tango concert on May 15th), Glendale, Arizona (Summer Music Mania, May 20th), New York (Z100's Zootopia, May 21st) and Mansfield, Massachusetts (KISS 108 FM Concert, May 22nd). The last of those appearances will take place just before she heads back to New York for the Play Safe show.

Simpson has also lined up a string of concert dates. The ten-date run begins June 4th in New Orleans.

Play Safe in the Park is part of Central Park's annual SummerStage program. The Strokes kick off the concert series on May 19th with a benefit. The full lineup hasn't been announced yet, but among the acts to play this summer will be a reunited Devo.

JESSICA SIMPSON'S CONCERT STRUGGLE

Becoming a reality TV star has done little for Jessica Simpson's pop career -- promoters have had to cut the price of tickets to see her perform in a bid to fill seats.

The sexy star of "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" sang at Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheatre on Friday as part of her Jessica Simpson Reality Tour.

But organizers faced a frantic battle before the gig to fill the 6,000 capacity venue.

According to Page Six, $50 tickets were cut to $20 prior to the show, and then reduced again to, "Buy three $20 seats -- get one free."

That's odd. Why don't people like Jessica Simpson's music? Is everyone more interested in her being a ditzy blonde? Or in her being a Sex Symbol? How can she be so well known JUST for those things and not for her music? It almost doesn't make sense.

But, buy three seats for $20.00 each and get one free is a bloody good deal!!!

NFL Tighly Controling Jessica Simpson's Live Concert

http://images.ibsys.com/2004/0810/3636005.jpg

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tonight's nationally televised concert to kick off the NFL season is using lessons learned from the Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction."

In order to avoid a repeat of the crotch-grabbing, breast-baring halftime show from Houston, the league is tightly controlling the concert that will be broadcast before Thursday night's season opener.

Jessica Simpson, who will perform in a free concert at Metropolitan Park -- the site of the next Super Bowl -- had to have her wardrobe checked to ward off a potential "malfunction" like the one that left Janet Jackson bare-breasted and the NFL red-faced in front of 90 million viewers.

The league picked the acts, which include Elton John, Lenny Kravitz and Destiny's Child performing from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., where the New England Patriots will play the Indianapolis Colts. There will also be a 10-second delay on the broadcast to give the NFL and ABC a chance to pull the plug on anything too racy.

The Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers 32-29 in the Feb. 3 Super Bowl -- one of the most exciting title games ever. But much of the post-mortem has focused on the halftime show.

Gates at Metro Park open at 4:30 p.m., with Simpson expected to take the stage between 7 and 8 p.m.

I don;t think Jessica is the type to have a "wardrobe malfunction". Janet has always done things a bit different and been a bit out there and more controversial. I really doubt that Jessica would let something like that happen, even by accident.
