24may04
POP star and aspiring actor Jessica Simpson has clinched the role of Daisy Duke in the upcoming film The Dukes of Hazzard.
"She is really excited," said Simpson's father and manager, Joe. "Daisy Duke is right down her alley."
The remake of the late-1970s-early 1980s cult TV show about the Duke cousins and their hotted-up Dodge Charger, called The General Lee, is set to begin production soon.
Simpson, who has had a chart hit with With You and is the star of the reality TV show Newlyweds, nabbed the role out from under the pert noses of a posse of hopefuls.
Fellow blonde pop starlet, Britney Spears, was among them, but Simpson's popularity on screen as well as off it appears to have won her the approval of the film's producers. | | Reply To this Message

HUGH Jackman better get some acting lessons so he doesn't get shown-up by his next co-star – Ms Jessica Simpson.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | She's going to be in the remake of the Dukes of Hazard as well. I guess we just have to wait and see. I remember them showing her doing a skit for a comedy show as part of Newlyweds and she took a whole day to do a five minute scene. I am certainly glad I am not the diurector! | | Reply To this Message

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Pop star Jessica Simpson has been cast as Daisy Duke in the big-screen remake of "The Dukes of Hazzard," a project that essentially marks her feature film debut.
Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville already had been cast as Bo and Luke Duke, respectively, in the Warner Bros. project. Jay Chandrasekhar is directing. A start date has not yet been set.
The series, which ran on CBS from 1979 to 1985, followed the weekly adventures of southern cousins Bo and Luke -- "just two good ol' boys, never meaning no harm," according to the Waylon Jennings theme song -- who raised hell driving their souped-up Dodge Charger, the General Lee, in fictional Hazzard County. They, along with their cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse, staged running battles with the corrupt authorities, Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane.
Pop star Simpson shot to fame when her marital misadventures with fellow singer and husband, Nick Lachey, aired on MTV's "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica." She has played herself in countless TV appearances and had a guest starring run on "That '70s Show." On the big screen, she played herself in the 2002 feature "The Master of Disguise."

| Posted by: schmiggens | | IT'S THE JOKES OF HAZZARD
IT'S not all sweetness and light on the set of the new Dukes of Hazzard movie.
Blonde bombshell Jessica Simpson has fallen out with her leading men Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott. Jessica, who plays Daisy Duke in the latest Hollywood reworking of a TV show, is fed up with their constant teasing. 'Johnny and Seann have been saying her butt looks big compared to the original Daisy,' reported our insider on the set.
'They know she's sensitive about it. 'In one scene, Johnny and Seann are in the car as Bo and Luke talking to Daisy and then leap out. But in one take they leapt out naked from the waist down. Jessica freaked and told them to grow up.'

Pop beauty Jessica Simpson is paranoid about the size of her bottom and gets enraged when it is mocked by her "Dukes of Hazzard" co-star Johnny Knoxville.
The singer, who beat Britney Spears for the coveted role of Daisy Duke in the big-screen remake, has reportedly had enough of other actors' jokey antics.
An insider says, "They have been saying her butt looks big compared to the original Daisy. They know she's sensitive about it."
Simpson allegedly snapped when "Jackass" star Knoxville and actor Sean William Scott jumped out of a car to surprise her -- naked from the waist down.
The source adds, "Jessica told them to grow up. She was freaked out."

I knew that Jessica Simpson was playing Daisy Duke, and I knew that meant she would be wearing short jean shorts, but I hadn't really prepared myself for just how wickedly hot she would look in them. I sort of recall that the original Daisy Duke wore a shirt or something, but if the producers of the new movie have decided to just go with a bikini, that's fine by me. Maybe they should just lose the whole jean shorts thing altogether and just throw Jessica Simpson in a thong. Sure it would be a slap in the face to the original series, but I think I'm okay with that.
Oh, and Jessica Simpson has huge breasts, I mean, thighs. It's like they took a hot blonde and implanted her onto some tree trunks. I'm not complaining or anything, I'm just saying. Saying that she has huge thighs that is! Wait, I just said that...

A set insider said: 'She can barely bend down they're so tight. When she does she's in danger of showing everyone what Daisy is hiding in those shorts.'

Stars say they're having fun, but they won't talk about the plot.

Jessica Simpson on the set of "The Dukes of Hazzard"
FRENCH SETTLEMENT, Louisiana — It seems getting someone on the set of "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie to talk about the storyline is about as challenging as catching them darn Duke boys.
"If you want to talk about plot, talk to Jay," Johnny Knoxville, dressed as his Luke Duke character and leaning on the General Lee, said last week, referring to director Jay Chandrasekhar ("Super Troopers," "Club Dread"). "We don't know what the hell is going on."
"We're just having a good time," added Seann William Scott, who is portraying Luke's cousin Bo.
"Yeah, 'Punch this guy,' that's the kind of direction we get," Knoxville said.
OK. So, Jay, what exactly is this movie about?
"Well, in this one, the Dukes get in trouble and they get chased by Roscoe P. Coltrane," he explained, giving a description that could apply to any episode of the classic TV series, which ran from 1979 to 1985. "I don't want to tell you the ending, though."
Chandrasekhar did let it slip that Knoxville already rode a safe tied to a car going 30 miles per hour (no stuntman necessary), so there is some sort of heist in the movie. "We're trying to save Hazzard County," Scott said, vaguely.
While Chandrasekhar and his cast wouldn't reveal much about the plot, they were willing to discuss their approach to the movie. Rather than spoof the original show, like, say, "The Brady Bunch Movie" did, they're playing it straight. If anything, the movie will be more serious than the show.
"I think there are certain things about the TV show that you have to keep: the General Lee obviously, Boss' car, Daisy's Jeep, Roscoe has a dog named Flash," Chandrasekhar explained. "The rest of the movie was inspired by the 'Dukes of Hazzard' TV show and 'Smokey and the Bandit,' so it's going to feel a little different. It's played a little tougher, a little more macho."
In other words, Roscoe's signature laugh is gone. "With no disrespect to the original, that was a little hokey," said M.C. Gainey ("Con Air"), who is playing Coltrane.
"[We're capturing] the spirit of the show, we're not trying to imitate those guys, 'cause in my mind, those are the Duke boys forever," Knoxville added. "We're just trying to bring a little spin to it, or at least I am. I don't know Seann's method."
"I don't even have a method," Scott replied. "I just like driving the car."
And, as it turns out, he's not the only one having fun behind the wheel.
"I did the whole driving-school stunt work stuff and it's been really fun," Jessica Simpson, sporting the requisite Daisy Duke shorts, said while showing off her Jeep.
Like her male co-stars, Simpson is also doing some of her own stunts.
"Yesterday, I got to kick somebody in his chest and knock him down and take their order with my heel in their neck," she said. "It was funny. Daisy's that kind of waitress. Don't piss her off!"

Anonymous writes "I wanted to let you know what I noticed, maybe you'll agree. I’ve seen pictures of Jessica lately and her back side is kind of flat. Especially some pictures where she is wearing this big jean cut offs with a black and white stripe shirt. I saw a completely flat butt, but in the Dukes pictures she has a butt, I don’t know you but I think those Daisy Duke shorts are padded. It wouldn’t be the first time Hollywood put inserts in clothes to make the actresses look good. And actually the shorts look weird on the bottom like they were stitched .I bet you her shorts are padded but of course, will she admit it? She looks great! Don’t get me wrong. But a bootylicious Jessica, no way far far far from it. PS in JSimpson.net they have a close up picture of her butt wearing the big jeans cut offs to her knees and the stripe shirt. After looking at it you will agree with me."

Movie beauty Jessica Simpson has rubbished rumors she needed a bottom enhancement to play curvy Daisy Duke in the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie.
Recent reports claimed the singer-turned-actress needed help filling sexy Daisy's trademark denim hotpants. An onset source said, "Jessica's butt is too flat. We need a rounder, sexier rear end, and someone with better legs,'"
But Simpson's rep tells gossip site the Scoop, "It's not true -- it's all Jessica."

I think that's the shot they are saying shows that her bum has implants in the shorts. I can kind of see what they're talking about. Her bottom isn't quite that shape normally.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | I am going to see it just because of her too. I want to see if she can actually act. The only real "acting" I've ever seen her do was a two minute skit on SNL or something, they showed bits of it on Newlyweds and she was horrible. It took her three days to learn two minutes of lines and even then she kept stuffing the lines up.
I don't have high hopes for Dukes of Hazard. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Oh, no way. I don't expect much. The cast is a joke, but it could be cool. Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie is sweet.
The original show was so lame it was funny. I think this will be the same.
