| Ashlee Simpson to Star in Wannabe

Singer/actress Ashlee Simpson (7th Heaven) is set to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the crime-drama Wannabe, which starts shooting in November. The Intermedia Films project was rewritten and will be directed by Eric Eason, who wrote and directed 2002 Sundance Film Festival favorite Manito. Outlaw Productions will produce and Lions Gate Films is distributing.
"The movie involves music and actors, and all that kind of stuff," Simpson told MTV. "I play an actor, and it's basically about musicians trying to find their way. There's a guy who gets too old to be a musician, and all of us become his fan club. So it's going to be a great movie, and [studio] Lions Gate does edgier films, so it's going to be really exciting."
Wannabe is described as a modern-day mob story based on the offspring of mobsters who defy the traditions and protocols of their elders and embark on their own bloody paths.
