Britney Spears - Do Somethin'

[Intro]
Do you feel this
I know you feel this
Are You ready?
I dont think so

[Part 1]
Somebody give me my truck
So I can ride on the clouds
So we can turn up the bass like...

Somebody pass my guitar
So I can look like a star
And spend this cash like...

Whatchu gonna do when the croud goes Ayo?
Why you standin' on the wall?
Music startin' everywhere
So why dont you just move along?

[Chorus]
I see you lookin' at me
Like I'm some kind of freak
Get up out of your seat
Why dont you do somethin'?

I see you lookin' at me
Like I got what you need
Get up out of your seat
Why dont you do somethin'?

[Part 2]
Now you all in my grill
Cause I say what I feel
Only rocks on what's real
(???) bump bump
But I can't do that with you
Already here with my crew
I can roll if you can
Dont be a punk punk

Whatchu gonna do when the croud goes Ayo?
Why you standin' on the wall?
Music startin' everywhere
So why dont you just move along?

[Chorus x2]

Na nananananana
Uh!
Na nananananananana

[Bridge]
I see you lookin' over here
Cant you tell I'm havin' fun
If you know like I know
You would stop
starin' at us
And get your own space
And do somethin'

[chorus x2 (expect to hear another **** inside this chorus!)]

****!
Do Somethin'
Ow!
Why dont you do somethin'?

The new track on Britney's greatest hits, 'Do Somethin'', is really brilliant. It sounds like Xenomania producing Gwen Stefani doing '20th Century Boy'. It goes to Homebase, buys a ladder, leans it against a wall, climbs it, and pisses on the 'My Prerogative' single from a very great height.

There is speculation, still, on what Britney's second single off of 'GREATEST HITS: MY PREROGATIVE' but according to some sources the next single and video will be Do Somethin'.

It is believed that auditions for Do Somethin' were held in Burbank, California last Thursday.

Britney Will Release Video For "Do Somethin'" Overseas

While she's supposed to be taking a break from her career, Britney Spears has just wrapped another video — for "Do Somethin'," one of the new songs on her greatest-hits collection. Fans might not have a chance to see the clip, though, as it's only being serviced overseas.

OFFICIAL DO SOMETHING VIDEO TREATMENT

The video starts with takes in an abandoned store. The lighting of the outside blue. All seems quiet. But, inside, there's a party going on where everything moves softly. There's red lights in there.

A DJ goes on with the music and then, a Jeep is seen crossing the screen, with Britney as the chauffeur. Some friends are with her. When the first verse finishes (as someone in the Jeep with Britney says: Britney lights to the music), Britney goes near the factory and later walks toward it with her girls.

They then enter the party and this is when it really begins. But, the boys aren't really into dancing... Britney decides to use a very sensual dance routine to bring the guys on the dance floor.

When the second verse finishes, Britney comes out with a guy and the party is directed to a beach, where the only light is produced by the moon. There appears Britney and her girlfriends. They go into yet another dance routine and they do manage to get the boys to dance too.

Finally, Britney gets back in her Jeep, leaving her guy behing her. He's seen standing there, at the edge of the road, all disconcerted. He unfolds a paper Britney threw in from her Jeep. The final picture is when the guy finds out she gave him her phone number. It then fades to black.

BRITNEY UPSETS DO SOMETHIN' DIRECTOR

Someone please stop her. Why does Britney Spears feel like she needs to post a letter on her website every week? Well, this week the singer has again forgotten to do her homework and has pissed off her music video director Billie Woodruff.

"He was very hurt by her statements," says a close friend, "She has called him several times since the posting but he does not want to speak with her."

In her latest letter Britney writes, "I just shot a cute video for 'Do Something' that I co-directed. After doing about 20 videos, it gets kind of boring playing the same role, so I chose to work with a young, hungry, director Bille Woodruff."

Billie Woodruff is not a hungry director by any means. He has directed videos for OutKast, Backstreet Boys, TLC, and many Toni Braxton videos including, "Un-Break My Heart." The director was also behind the movie, Honey, starring Jessica Alba.

Another fact Britney may have forgot is that he also directed her video, "Overprotected," from her self-titled album. Oops... she did it again!

Do Somethin' - What you maybe didn't notice

A lot of people are making fun of Do Somethin' saying it's the cheapest video Britney has ever done. I've been watching it a few times and realized a few things. At first, I thought I was crazy, but I noticed other people found out similar things.

For exemple, at the begining of the video, on the doors, at the end of the tunnel (which is similar to the one in Toxic), you can read Mona Lisa. We all know this is a track that'll appear on Original Doll.

So why Hole In The Wall (destination: Hole In The Wall + Hole In The Wall club), Strut (on the Jeep's mirror thing), Auto Pilot (Auto Pilot button in the Jeep), FBI (Britney's hat) and Love Boat (Britney's pink shirt) couldn't be other tracks set to appear on this new album? You'll also probably notice many resemblances between Do Somethin' and Me Against The Music and Toxic (and maybe Everytime, if you look closely at the faces Brit does at the very begining, just like in Everytime).

It's like a recap of the previous era, along with a trailer of what's to come. Really interesting.

I think that is stretching it a bit thin. I noticed the "Mona Lisa" but reading to much into it is silly. I don't think Britney is that smart to put so much innuendo and what-not into a video. Just enjoy for what it is. Bubble gum pop.

Britney Wants You To "Do Somethin'"

Trent had mentioned the video earlier and it got me thinking. something i try to do as little as possible.

alot of people are upset with the social decline of Mrs. Britney Federline. now she be actin' all ghetto, yo. which is fine with me. i am enjoying the transition. if you think about it, Madonna went thru how many transformations in her career? but, Madonna never "did" trailer park glam. now, the music industry has been presented a new Britney Spears. one that eats cheetos, drinks redbull, marries a backup dancer, and gets stoned with her husband. in my opinion, this transformation is wayyyy more entertaining than the lil school girl vixen that we were so used to. rita the roommate might disagree....

... but she saves cracked glasses. what does she know?

she has just released a new video for "do something" off of her greatest hits collection. i watched it repeatedly over an hour ago. i like it. it is simple. humorous. flashy yet trashy. everything you should expect out of Britney Version 3.0

the song starts off with, "somebody give me my truck. so, i can ride on the clouds. so, i can turn up the bass like..." jigga wha? stoner Britney makes me chuckle. who drives a pink truck in the clouds? maybe those who have a threesome with mary jane and their husband... mrs federline. you naughty woman. i do enjoy the silly, though. yes, i am using silly as noun. get over it, you grammar freaks. she is driving a pink truck in clouds to a destination called "hole in the wall." when i think of a hole in the wall establishment, i think of the Whiskey River in Dubuque, Iowa or the L&L Tavern on Clarke in Chicago. places that i hold dear to my heart. not the club she struts through. the rest of the video is fairly predictable. skimpy clothes. lots of dancing and struting in front of drooling men. an occational solo shot of Britney gyrating by herself. the video equation that continues to work for her. however, i propose maybe a video where she is grinding and gettin' down-n-dirrrty in a ballgown of sorts.

either way, she sings with shaken vocals of "you're all in my grill cause i say what i feel. only rock to what's real." it is talk like this that makes me anticipate her next project. mispronouncing "something" to "suntin" and refering to her mouth as her "grill." if there is a trailer park heaven, i am in it.

DO SOMETHIN ALREADY FLYING HARD ON AIRPLAY

"Do Somethin'" will be Britney's 18th single in the UK and I think will chart pretty highly considering the airplay the song is already getting (currently at #37 in 95.8 Capital FM's airplay chart) and isn't facing much strong competition from other artists that week.

Here are that week's releases:
Akon - Locked Up
Anastacia - Heavy On My Heart/Underground Army
Annie - Heartbeat
Elvis Presley - (Marie’s The Name) His Latest Flame
Girls Aloud - Wake Me Up
Idlewild - Love Steals Us From Loneliness
Iron and Wine - Woman King EP
Kaiser Chiefs - Oh My God
Kaptain Black - Drone The Queen Bee (7” only)
Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
New Found Glory - I Don’t Wanna Know
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Get Ready For Love
Nine Black Alps - Shot Down
Rakes - Retreat
Tears For Fears - The Closest Thing To Heaven
The Earlies - Bring It Back Again
The Frames - Fake
Tokyo Dragons - What The Hell

The only real competition there are Girls Aloud, but they won't acheive number 1 as the song has already recieved critism for its lyrics concerning alchohol abuse, which will prevent a few sales from little girls. The other factor is that Britney's tracks that are a bit 'out there' and aren't really like anything out in the charts, tend to do well e.g. Toxic, Everytime & I'm A Slave 4 U.

UPDATE: It has now climbed to #33!

New Brit clip has flying Hummer, more underwear dancing

MTV.com: Britney Spears wanted control of her career, and she got it. The result? Her latest video, which she co-directed, features the singer playing air guitar in her underwear, singing in a faux girl band, and flying a pink Hummer through the clouds.

Spears said she had more of a hand in "Do Somethin' " than any other video she's made, as she "even came up with all the choreography and styled the entire shoot myself using Juicy Couture clothing". "Do Somethin'," which won't be serviced to U.S. video channels, was slated to premiere in the U.K. this Friday, but fans around the world are already watching it thanks to an online leak.

In it, Spears wears a pink midriff T-shirt reading "Love Boat" and a pink capelet, making her way to a club called Hole in the Wall with her four blond bandmates via the flying pink Hummer and singing, "Somebody give me my truck/ So I can ride on the clouds/ ... Somebody pass my guitar/ So I can look like a star." En route, they whip their hair in sync to the beat as Spears puts the car on autopilot. Once they arrive, Spears and crew head for the dance floor, where she exhorts the crowd, "Get up out of your seat/ Why don't you do something?"

After a few dance moves, including one where her band pushes her around in a chair, Spears and the girls make for the stage and rock out a bit. Interspersed throughout the video are shots of Spears performing in black underwear and a white mini fur coat, as if she were shot in a separate room and is just being flashed on a screen à la "My Prerogative." But when her band starts performing, the in-her-undies Spears' response is to play air guitar.

Spears has described the video as "cute," which might explain why she goes back and forth between trying to look sexy and then goofy. She breaks from serious vamp poses to mug dorky grins and roll her eyes at the camera, even when she's in her underwear. Her answer to the incongruity might also be found in the song: "I see ya looking over here/ Can't you tell I'm having fun?"

Britney on TOTP

BBC.co.uk: Ere! We thought she was taking a break! Well it looks like Britney has got bored of sitting in her jammies watching CSI and has decided to get back onto the pop horse, and 'Do Somethin' is the result. We don't want to spoil the surprise but it's safe to say that Brit has discovered electro-pop in a big way. That's all we're saying (pssst! It's ace!)...

Britney is set to appear on Top Of The Pops this Friday, January 21st. It's still unknown if she will perform or if only the Do Somethin' video will be shown.

Britney Spears "Do Somethin" Music Video

http://www.thesuperficial.com/archives/20050124britney.jpg

Here's the new music video for Britney Spears' "Do Somethin." Can't say much for the song, but Britney sure does clean up nicely doesn't she? It's amazing what Hollywood can do with a little makeup and lighting.

As long as they make the people I look at seem hot though, that's okay with me. And as long as Britney keeps parading around in her underwear, that's okay with me too. Assuming of course that she's been through the Hollywood cleanup machine and isn't looking like this.

There's a continuiity error in this video. In some shots of Britney and co. in the club, the shorter leg of her pants is totally black, in other shots it has been rolled up slightly and you can see the white lining underneath. You'd think someone would've noticed during filming or even during editing and changed it. Strange.

Somethin''s already been done, love

http://www.popjustice.co.uk/images/britneydosomething.jpg

Liking Britney's new single, 'Do Somethin''?

"Not much of a tune," you might be thinking, "but it sounds amazing. Sounds so modern, so now. How very brilliant that she is on the verge of propelling this brand new song into the higher reaches of the pop parade."

CLANG!

The single was first recorded over two and a half years ago by the Murlyn-sponsored four-piece girlgroup Melodi Brown (pictured below), a sort of clearing house for the hitmaking team's talents and a band whose run of nicked songs adds whole new dimension to the phrase 'always the bridesmaid'.

http://www.popjustice.co.uk/images/melodibrown.jpg

Since the stalled release of their first single 'Naked' in 2003 (it was pulled just a couple of months before it was due to hit the shops, probably something to do with idiot playlist bigwigs not getting it), they've already had 'DJ' recorded by both Samantha Mumba and Jamelia, and 'Spin That Bottle' slapped onto a Rachel Stevens b-side. Melodi Brown's version of 'Do Somethin'' was never released, but they did perform it at their London showcase in 2003.

Around the time, and with that typical Popjustice flair for backing a total loser, we interviewed the group in a pub and they were hilarious, although in the cold light of 2005 we can't remember a word of what happened and the results of our time with the band seem to have disappeared from the Unreliable Popjustice Hard Drive Of Doom.

So where next for the pop goldmine that is the Melodi Brown back catalogue? Well, as we've mentioned once before here on Popjustie, the band's trump card was always the killer slowie 'Never Knew My Baby', a song which simply must turn up somewhere.

Do you think the bookies are ready to take bets on Jamelia scoring this year's Christmas Number One?

So many songs get taken to so many artists before they finally get released. Thats ^ nothing new.

Britney's Toxic was given to Kylie first. Get Right was given to Usher before J-Lo recorded it. See? Nothing new

Do Somethin' is Single Of The Week

Or "Do SUH'in", as Britney insists on singing it. Someone in the Spears camp has realised that you're far more likely to have a long career in this business we call show if you release a stream of fantastic songs, rather than endlessly reworking your one big hit. So, after the polar opposites of 'Toxic' and 'Everytime' comes another right-angle turn of a song in which Britney goes crunk (sort of).

Actually, the hip hop beats, stripped back synths and squealy melodies are closer to '80s rap stars Salt 'N' Pepa than Lil John. And the layer of fuzz which descends like a swarm of grumpy wasps adds some much-needed seedy dirt to the whole affair. Sure, it runs out of steam halfway through, but if you give in and let the beat work its magic on those toes, chances are so will you.

Britney's Do Somethin' entered the Billboard Hot 100 at the #100 spot. It's actually getting 90% of its spins on 2 radio stations only, one in NYC and the other one in LA. The reason why it finally made it on the Hot 100 is because Neilson Soundscan started taking internet downloads into consideration, and Do Somethin' is a hot online download!
