Nelly Doesn't Want To Be A Role Model

Hip-hop star Nelly spends a lot of time motivating children to study hard at school - but he doesn't want to be their role model.

The Hot In Herre rapper and his St Lunatics collective often visit youngsters in their hometown of St Louis, Missouri, but Nelly admits he'd be a bad choice of role model because he can't be available to spend time with those who look up to him.

He says, "When we're back home, kids say, 'Oh, man! You came to my school and we really appreciated it.' Though I don't think actors, athletes or musicians should be role models.

"It should be someone you can call when you have a problem. You can't call Nelly. But I do what I can."

That makes sense. You can't have kids saying to themselves "What would Nelly do?" when they have a problem. They will never get an answer, but if they are asking "WHat would my dad do?" Then that's a realistic role model.

In a way it's kind of sad, that most kids idolise famous people instead of people they actually can interact with and learn from, their family and friends.
