Fury ... Harry is held back

PRINCE Harry's brawl with a snapper came at the end of a night's clubbing that saw him swigging vodka cocktails, tequila and beer.

And last night a senior Clarence House source admitted: "It's fair to say Harry was fired up. He'd been drinking and was tired and emotional."

The Prince and a male pal spent more than four hours knocking back booze at London's exclusive Pangaea nightclub.

Other clubbers said Harry paid £150 for a bottle of vodka - mixing it with fruit juice to make a series of cocktails.

One added: "To be honest, by the end of the night Harry looked pretty leathered."

The Prince also chatted up Mis-teeq stunner Alesha Dixon and Miss Great Britain runner-up Anne-Marie Mogg.

Berserk ... Harry attacks snapper outside club

He invited both for drinks at his table and offered them champagne.

But the mood turned ugly when he left the Mayfair club just after 3am yesterday - and ran into a posse of waiting photographers.

Harry's four minders bundled him into a waiting Mercedes - but the Prince, 20, leapt out and slammed snapper Chris Uncle into a wall.

The club's bouncers and the Royal bodyguards had to restrain the Prince.

One minder yelled: "Calm down Harry!" before they forced him back in the car and drove off.

Stunned Uncle, 24, was left nursing a cut lip.

Hurt ... snapper Uncle with cut lip

He said last night: "Harry lost it. He pushed me back and took a swing.

"He shouted, 'Why are you doing this? Why don't you just leave me alone?' He's a big lad and pretty intimidating. He hit my camera which smashed into my face.

"You don't expect that from a Z-list celebrity, let alone a prince."

Fellow snapper Stephen Walters said: "Harry had had a few. He was getting a bit of help on his way out."

Royal spokesman Paddy Harverson last night insisted Harry lashed out in self-defence after Uncle's camera clipped his face.

He added: "In pushing the camera away, it's understood a photographer's lip was cut. It was one of those incidents that happen."

The members-only Pangaea is a favourite with celebs like Abi Titmuss and Jodie Marsh.

Management frown on punters spending less than £500 on a Saturday night - not hard when a bottle of bubbly costs £1,000.

Harry's outburst comes days after an exam board ruled he did not cheat in his art A level. He flew off on holiday with pals yesterday.

Was a snub from this actress the reason Harry hit a photographer?

Anne-Marie Mogg rebuffed the Prince's advances

It turned into a disaster the moment Prince Harry stepped out of the nightclub and into the ranks of the paparazzi.
Now it emerges things didn't go too well for the young Royal inside the club either.

Model and aspiring actress Anne-Marie Mogg, 22, has come forward to shed new light on Harry's now infamous fracas with a photographer outside the Pangaea club in London's West End at 3.20am on Thursday.

She fears her firm rebuttal of the 20-yearold Prince's callow advances minutes earlier may have darkened his mood - and caused him to snap when he would otherwise have dealt with the paparazzi good-naturedly.

She portrays Harry as shy and bumbling, capable of talking to the opposite sex within his own aristocratic circle, but hopeless at engaging with sassy, streetwise girls such as herself.

She revealed that the Prince sent a friend to chat her up, while he sat skulking in a corner nursing a vodka and cranberry juice.

Anne-Marie said: "I was with a girlfriend called Josephine, who is also a model. I wore a low-cut white top with low-slung white jeans, so we were looking good, and we were out for a fun evening.

"We were at the bar when this good-looking, well-dressed young guy came over and asked if we wanted a drink. We said, 'No thanks' and Josephine started chatting to him. He introduced himself only as James.

Harry "seemed quite shy"

"It was then I noticed he had two friends with him, standing further away, and one was Prince Harry.

"He smiled at me and I smiled back, but he blushed and seemed quite shy and when he didn't try to speak to me I just carried on talking to other people I knew.

"Then Harry and his two friends went back over to their table, which was in the middle of the club. Everyone knows it is the best table where all the celebrities always sit.

"Josephine and I started dancing, but Harry and his friends kept looking over at us. They were laughing and just doing normal blokey things while having a few drinks."

But Harry didn't give up. After a while he sent his friend over for a second attempt. And this time James emphasised he was there by Royal request. 'James said, 'Girls, Harry would like to invite you over to his table.'

"Josephine repeated, 'Harry?' and James stressed, 'Harry, as in Prince Harry' so there was no question who he was talking about. He kept emphasising it was Prince Harry.

Mogg didn't want to be a groupie wannabe

"I said no. I didn't want to be seen as one of those groupie wannabes you always see at clubs, perched on tables with famous people. I don't treat anyone differently, and I wasn't going to give him any special treatment because he was a Royal.

"But don't get me wrong, he is a very good-looking guy. He's much taller and stronger-looking than I thought from photographs. If he hadn't been a Royal, I probably would have gone over.

"I think he was definitely too shy to approach us himself. It was quite sweet. He kept looking over from his table as we were dancing - but we didn't see him dance all evening. He just hung out with his friends, watching and sipping his vodka.

"They were cracking jokes. I hope they weren't teasing him about being shy. The photographers must have said stuff about us to him as well ... which must have provoked him.

"When we left the club all the photographers were asking about Harry and if we had sat at his table, so I can only imagine what they were saying to him.

"We left just before them, and as we were walking down the street we heard this massive scuffle behind us. We knew the commotion was about Harry."

Protection Officers in firing line over Harry Incident

In the wake of Prince Harry’s widely documented altercation with a photographer outside a London nightclub on Wednesday night, Clarence House has appealed for a sense of balance by the media.

While the official attitude seems determinedly low-key – "He got hurt, he reacted. It’s as simple as that," announced a senior official – the 20-year-old Prince’s protection officers look set to bear the brunt of criticism, as their handling of the incident has been brought into question.

The Prince of Wales is said to be unhappy that Harry had been placed in such a confrontational situation, while, according to Buckingham Palace sources, the Queen is keen to see her grandson "protected". A senior Palace aide revealed that: "There is disappointment here that the situation was allowed to develop to the extent it did."

A protection department source was quick to leap to the defence of Sergeant Ieuan Jones, one of the officers present at the time, saying: "He is an extremely good officer who some here think has been placed in a very difficult situation."

Harry, who was driven away to a secret location five hours after the altercation and reportedly examined by a doctor, has apparently apologised to his father over the fracas. "Harry is contrite about the whole thing," said a senior police protection source. "He is extremely disappointed he allowed himself to be provoked in this way."

While the snapper involved in the scuffle, Chris Uncle, has contradicted Clarence House’s version of events – which insists the Prince retaliated after being struck – it seems unlikely the 24-year-old paparazzi will press charges.

Prince Harry left the UK on a pre-arranged holiday with chums the day after the incident.
