Who is your favorite judge from American Idol?

This isn't a fair poll cuz I think Paula and Randy were kinda weak as judges and Simon was good at evaluating but he was a total... err... jerk. So it's a love-hate relationship.. I'm forced to vote for Simon for lack of enthusiasm for the other two.

Simon was the only one with enough balls to be brutally honest with these kids.

Something they need before they spend the rest of their lives tweaking the audio sensory of others around them who do not have the sincere kindess to tell them they suck.

Speaking of Randy does anyone remember him on bass with Journey for the "Raised on Radio" tour circa 1986?

Everyone complains about Simon but he is dead on right with his critiques. All of the contestants think they are flawless stars, but most of the top 24 don't have the whole package. When they paired people up in groups it REALLY separated the talent from the not-so-talented. Can't blame Simon for when those singers crumbled under the pressure.

Simon is not a jerk!!! All he does is keep it real. These people are not gonna get anywhere in the business if they suck and somebody's over here lying to them. That's not gonna help them.
I think the only time Simon was unfair was when he tried to play that 5 year old. I thought he did very good. Plus he was adorable.
If nobody else wants to tell these people the truth then they're lucky Simon's around!

I know people may hate Simon but I disagree! I love the guy! He is honest and he makes sure the people that sound like crap know it so they dont screw up their lives later. Rock on Simon!

I think there's a distinct difference between honesty / keeping it real and being a jerk. Honest / real is "you're a horrible singer, you don't have what it takes, stick to your day job." Jerk is "I don't like the way you look, you have less talent than a wailing cat in an alley, you have no taste in clothes, and you're pathetic." *shrug* it's the difference between constructive criticism and just, plain insults. I can't think of any examples off hand, but I recall several times thinking thast his comments were totally unnecessary...

Well....I personally LOVE Paula! I could be a little bias considering she's like one of my favorite people in the entire world, but when I started watching AI last season I didn't know who she was, much less Randy and Simon, and I liked her best then, too! So...I guess that's fair, huh? Lol...

I LOVE Simon I think he's great, people may dislike him just for being honest all they want, I like him. He's pretty cute too!

Paula is the epitomy of a fence sitter. She's worthless for anything other than a polite analysis.

And on a show like this - who needs that? If that were the case, we'd employ our mothers to review these kids (who suck).

My favorite judge is Paula because she's nice. Randy is nice too. Simon is mean. HOWEVER- I would bet Simon is the reason many people watch this show to see what he's going to say next. So, Simon would get my vote as my favorite.

ya know paula is the only one who trys to be nice and doesn't use the words "dawg, dude, or man" in the whole show, so i respect her 4 that, but i dunno i just got this thing for simon..(i even voted him for sexy instead of he sux lol) GO SIMON

yeah simon is a good evaluater but he was just flat out mean and rude he shouldn't knock the poeple for trying and actually giving their best ya know? that was stupid of him and he should be in their place and see how it feels to get knocked down!! then he would know it doesn't feel too good!!!!! i think he needs to be in their shoes/ places for a chance!!!!

Mr. Funky Monkey I think I have to agree with you. I love your Mean, 50/50, nice analogy. Although Simon can go way over the constructive criticism limit at times, I believe it's necessary. If all your life you have yes men backing you you'll be lost in the real world. It's sucha cut throat buisness that his comments are almost necessary. Plus, it makes the contestants try much harder, as well as shows the audience what they're made of. With that in mind I'd like to add that Paula is probably a nice person altogether and that's why it was so hard for her self confidence in her once rising star status. She counteracts the negativity because she dosen't want the same disorder to fall upon the new crop. Knowing her past what kind of person would anyone view her as if her opinions and remarks mirrored Simons.-Thanks, Angel

I would definitely pick Simon as the better judge I too tend to agree that the other two judges are weak and not hard enough. Simon tells it as it is and that's good. Whereas I would bet that at times Paula and Randy would agree totally with Simons comments, they just wanted to stayed liked by the contestants and america is my guess.

Simon is the Man! He should know what sells being in the recird business. I will admit he gets a little too personal with some of his remarks. BUT thats what brings tension to this show.

Simon is my favorite for reasons some of you have already stated: he's the only one who's dead honest with these people. Randy is to a lesser extent, but he tends to butter people up before he rejects them. In my opinion, Simon is better because he is what record execs are like, and these singers should know what they're going to be up against in the future.

Having said that, I must say I disagreed with Simon tonight about Trenyce. He thought her performance was bad and too cabaret. I actually thought she sounded pretty good tonight.

Simon was dead on! Carmen was way out of her element, Tryence I didn't think she compared to Dion/. I thought that Josh was really good! Clay was wonderful and so was Ruben. Even Ricky sounded better then Lionel Richie. Ehey were all pretty good but I think the bottome three will be, Carmen, Tyrence and Kimberly L. America is getting reid of CARMEN! Whatcha all think?

Reheba, here goes. The night was gedicated yo Billboard night, which means the kids would have a choice of ANYTHING that was number one doe any length of time. You wouldn't have known it by the choices! Where do these kids get their picks./

As for the judges......if I had to pick one as my favorite, I guess I would pick Simon. Although I do not agree with many of the comments he makes to the contestants, I do feel that he is the only one that is honest with them. There is a thin line between constructive criticism and pure insults....and Simon has a tendency to fall to the wrong side of that line. However, I don't think the contestants would learn anything if the only feedback they got throughout this process was from Paula and Randy.

I will admit though....sometimes I don't even agree with the *few* compliments that Simon does give out.....Carmen???? Are you serious?!?!

My personal fav is Simon but I mean lets face it whenever Kelly Clarkson comes on the show he gets a little too excited . . .if she was in this competition . . . .I don't think she'd win . . . .He keeps it real for the most part except when she's on

In this business you cannot be polite to these people they way Paula and Randy are. When and if these people ever make it to the real world, they will have to deal with alot of criticism and Simon is the one who keeps it real! I may not always agree with his words, but he tells it how he sees it and that it the way it needs to be!!!

Paula really got on my nerves last night. What in the world was she talking about when she said Josh took a risk?? He sounded like his usual Merle Haggard twangy self to me.

I'm a Simon fan. He talks alot of sh** but if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I like Simon but he contradicts himself all the time. One minute he picks Carmen for the finals and the next he tells her she sucks and can't win. The next he tells Clay that he is he one to beat then he tells Clay he is not what they are looking for. Then he tells Ruben he is the one to beat then he tells him he sounds like Barry White all the time. I think his mood depends on if he took his Medication or not. He confuses me....

I agree Catlady.. He does say the truth sometimes, but i just dont agree with his clay comments... He needs to up the meds..

Having seen both UK Pop Idol & Pop Stars: the Rivals and this American Idol 2, I'm sure the judges are given roles by the people behind the scenes. I'm sure Paula was chosen to be positive and supportive, which probably fits in well with her personality, and there's no doubt Simon was chosen because he's great with a cutting comment that fits easily into a soundbite - and I'm sure Randy was chosen as '50/50' guy, as someone else called him.

Randy and Simon usually both say what my boyfriend and I are saying at home (Simon more than Randy). Occasionally though, I think 'where are their ears?' - especially with Trenyce. SImon was dead on though when he said that we haven't seen much of Trenyce behind the mask though - her fans vote for her voice, but no-one can see her personality to vote for.

I think sometimes Randy errs on the side of being nice and sometimes Simon errs on the side of being too nasty. He has trouble staying constructive - I think he enjoys being the villain.

i like simon because he is very honest. paula is nice and all but she seems to repeat what randy says alot and randy drives me nuts because it is always "whats up dawg". simon gets my vote.

It's tru Paula goes out of her way hust 2 b nice but it seems like she sugar coats it so much that she sometimes messes up the point. Simon is direct and honest but he overdoes it. With her off-the-wall commentary, it is ever apparent that Paula has taken her Zoloft / Prozac cocktails and Botox injections to a new level. More than half the time, I must go running for my Abdul to English translation manual to determine what the hell it is she just said.

Hands down without a doubt Simon. Imagine American Idol without him! Whats that? You can't? You are absolutely right.....there would be no American Idol without Simon. Hes so....Simon. Although sometimes I feel like he goes "against the grain" just to disagree with the other judges, I totally love his honesty, especially when the other judges "nice up" the contestants when its so obvious they sucked. Randy irratates me more than half the time, and although I think Paula is adorable, I think she needs to either stop sucking up(like Simon said last week) or get her ears tuned. She always looks great though!

He's real, he gets to the point, and even though he may be critical, thats what you need to be to get the best in the business. Now of course I loved Josh and I didn't want him to go at all, but I must admit his performances weren't all that good near the end, and Simon was right to say what he did. Sometimes he can be plain cruel, but hey thats the entertainment business for you. In order to get the best actors, singers ect., they have to go through the critical stage. My mom was a countrysinger in nashville many years ago and sang at the grande ole opry many times. And one thing you have to understand when your a singer is you have to learn how to take critisism, and take it in a positive way. Anyways enough of my nattering. I just wanted to say I like Simon and I do think he's sexy! hehe.

I think they all need to be quiet already. They are trying to hard to sway public opinion. Over and over they tell Ruben oh it wouldn't be the same without you.. Wonder if it ever occured to them that not all of us think he is the best?

I think Randy Jackson is the most fair and honest judge. If he doesn't like what they did he says so.

Simon is an excellent judge of talent but sometimes I think he is totally off the wall. He has slammed contestants that I thought were excellent. He never gave Trenyce any credit and she was great. I think she was better than Kimberly

Although simon is very real when it comes to expressing his business minded opinion, you have to sometimes question where he runs his business from?

I don't quite like the fact that he can be repeatitive in his critiques, and to be quite honest, one does get sick of the "your the worst singer in america" inuendo's.

To say the least, he's far more realistic than the others majority of the time, he does have the god factor going on that makes him somtimes forget that he's judging on the performance and not just cause he has the ability too.

Personally, they all sucked! I would have initially voted for Simon because I appreciate honesty and realness in a person, but when he called Clay ugly in front of the entire nation it just proved how much of a pompous ******* he really is. Next season, they should cast new judges, perhaps maybe even some legendary singers/songwriters whose ablums, songs, singles, whatever outlasted the ilk of the 1980's. Oh yea, also, judges that are OBJECTIVE not BIASED!

I say Randy because I think Simon is too harsh sometimes and he just goes way too far. It's really unfair. Like what does Clay being ugly (and personally I think he's damn cute) have to do with his talent? I really think Simon is biased and he is such a brat the way he sits there and looks so annoyed when people are performing. At first I thought he was funny, but I hated how he never pointed out Ruben's faults. And I HATED how he told four people (that we saw) they need to lose weight. It sickens me.

I would have said Simon. But after the final, I'll say none. I like ruben and i was happy for him when he won but he was really off the night. For the judges to say he was good was a lie.

i think he was good maybe the songs didnt suit him or sum **** but he was still good. he had an awsome voice and ****. i like clay but he looks kinda gay and he was off on his first 2 songs he sung. i woulda been happy too if he won but then people around here were saying ruben wouldnt win cuz hes big and **** and i wanted to prove em wrong. and i still think randy is tha best judge and then puala and i dont like simon at all.

Paula is worthless as a real critic. She's all fluff and warm fuzzies. Everyone would be a winner if it was up to her.

Randy is not as warm and fuzzy as Paula. He is the in between soft and hard critic. I like it when he's honest.

Simon is the best. Brutally honest, yes. But so are the real world critics out in the industry that will rip you to shreds! If these singers can't handle the really tough critiques they don't belong out there. SIMON RULES!

Which all the more shows just how professional and mature Clay Aiken is as a singer and entertainer. He took every criticism and made positive changes to himself from them week after week. He never let it destroy him. He used the critiques to push the envelope and make himself even better than before. Clay is still improving. Ruben is so comfortable with just being himself he won't ever change. We will see Clay continue to grow as an entertainer and become a huge star. So huge, that it will be an embarrassment for AI.

I went with Simon. For a lot of people he was the REASON they watched the show. Not me, of course, but he's so blatantly honest and that's the way it has to be IMHO.

I'm having a real hard time answering this question because I don't think that what they call "judging" really took place. Very rarely would I get hints of true constructive criticism re the contestant's technique. Phrasing, breath control, interpretation, pitch, etc. were never really delved into. Appearance seemed to be a big issue which really shouldn't have been since they had a whole system in the background consisting of stylists, wardrobe mistresses, makeup artists, etc. who had most of the control in that department.

The formula that was chosen to represent the "judging dais" was just a marketing ploy to get the ratings up...and, obviously...it worked.

As a shameless fan of Clay's, I don't know how he was able to take anything that Simon said and make it work to his advantage since so much of Simon's comments were contradictory and "de-constructive." I think Simon may have gone over the edge where Clay is concerned...it should be interesting to see how much damage, if any, this will do to his own "marketablity."

simon's the most entertaining, like somebody said you tune in to see just what hes gonna say but paula explained that setup pretty well i think. she said she was like the warm "mom" simon was the "wait til your dad gets home" and randy was like your brother, sometimes on your side and sometimes not. i think i liked simon because i can't really get a read on him, is he a total boogerhead or a cool dude........and people i can't figure out interest me. paula is sure easy to look at and always nice, randy's cool but he needs to lock the dawgs back up for a while.

As far as favorite <ahem> judge, I'd choose Simon BUT, that in no way means I think he's a good <ahem> judge; just that he's my choice of the 3.
In a lot of the posts, I see him being hailed as 'honest'; I disagree. (I think honesty & fairness go hand in hand) If he were, he would have the same expectations & require the same qualifications of all the contestants....fairly . He clearly did NOT.

i read an opinion in another forum that it should be required that each judge actually give a piece of positive and one of negative feedback to each contestant, not just "yeah dawg" or "your soul danced" or "that was dreadful", so the contestants could learn what they're doin right and what they're doing wrong. as judges none of them are much good but for viewing purposes simon was always the one ya wanna hear from, if nothing else just so you can get pissed at him lol.

Why? You can't really pick the best singer by what she has to say cuz she is to afraid of hurting their feelings to tell the truth. I mean, even when they suck, she says something good about it. I like Paula as a person but she sucks as a judge for something like AI. I don't like hurting others feelings either but when you are trying to find the next AI you have to tell the truth, right.?

I went to the AI concert on Sunday, and in the program book they asked each contestant who was their favorite judge and why. Here are their answers.

Ruben- I like them all

Clay - Randy, in my opinion is the most constructive with his criticism. He's supportive most of the time, but if he feels there is something that needs work he lets you know. Paula is the same, which is great. Additionally I do respect Simon's honesty.

Kimberley L. - I would have to say Paula became one of my favorite judges because I think she is the only one who did not judge us by the number of dollar signs she saw when we performed. My favorite guest artist so far has been Lionel Ritchie. He actually came in knowing about the show and gave his opinion.

Trenyce - My favorite judge is Paula, she gave me constructive criticism without being totally rude, but ya gotta love Simon for saying what others truly feel! I'm a realist so I understand (sometimes)

Carmen - Simon, because he got me this far. Thank you for seeing something in me.

Kimberly C. - (Question was not in program for her)

Rickey - Paula because she truly is a heart-felt genuine lady.

Julia - Simon, just cause he's Simon!

I did a poll myself and I found out that majority of all boys have longer eyelashes that girls? {no mascara HE HE} and that boys tend to look more handsome as they get older? and more boys are under seventy five pounds by the time they are ten, while most girls are over 100 pounds by the time they are teenagers? Boys can look naturally handsome without caking themselves with makeup, way better than girlz. And then another thing, Clay is a devout Christian and so am I. Simon shows a great deal of what it takes to become an effective singer such as Kelly Clarkson. She survived because she has patience and skill thats what you must have to get an (E)'s from Simon.

Well as for me, i think i voted Simon! He is sometimes the reason i am watching the show, coz i wanna hear what he's going to say He's pretty honest and straightforward, which i think is cool.
