The United States of America is a nation that has been practicing the politics of power for quite some time now. Most noteably since the end of the second world war, American politics has evolved into two seperate entities, namely; Domestic Politics and secondly, Foreign Policy. The later concerns all of us, the world over. The ramifications for actual world peace and stablility depend largely on the policies of the United States. For example, North Korea possibly possesses "Weapons of Mass Destruction", Israel DOES in FACT CURRENTLY possess "Weapons of Mass Destruction". North Korea is not avtively engaged in any military operations against any other nation. Israel however IS CURRENTLY engaged in specific military engagements on a large scale with Palestine. Israel can also be percieved as being a very real threat to its neighbours, they certainly think so. Both countries have openly defied and flouted United Nations Resoultions. Israel has been long be identified as breaking international law on a regular basis.
Yet, Israel WILL NOT recieve ANY punishment whatsoever, whether within the United Nations where the regularily used US veto allows Israel complete impunity, or through seperate punishment from the self proclaimed "Moral Leader" and Global Superpower, the United States.
This said, North Korea it is claimed, has systematically abused its own people, violating human rights, Israel has not, rather it extends these abuses to its neighbours. However, Saudi Arabia through its dictatorial Royal Government is one of the worlds worst protagonists in regards to this widespread sytematic abuse of its own people. Human rights groups the world over deem the Saudi Royal family to be both corrupt and horribly efficient in its crimes against its own people. Yet again, the "Moral Leader" of the world see's no wrong here, instead the "friendship" enjoyed between these two "allies" ensures these crimes go unpunished.
Why is this the case? We are told over and over again that the United States is engaged in activity that is in direct response to the threat that corrupt dictatorships pose, the threat that aggressive governments who possess weapons that could cause widespread destruction, resulting in the loss of huge scores of innocent life. That these states are a THREAT, not simply to one other nation, but the entire globe.
The fact is the theme of "morality" is a red herring, a line from which to sell the proposed action to the people. Lets face it, you and I have spent our entire lives being courted by those selling us things, we are all well groomed for this. And just as the latest household "revoultionary" product is parraded in front of us in some dodgy infomercial, the Iraq war and all its idealistic trimmings was sold to the people of America, hook line and sinker through the projection of the ideal, the Great American Ideal at that. Overtly patriotic messages with no underlying factual or relevant reference material overdriven, over-proununciated and swamping the media, diluting facts and misplacing truths. The fundamental desire to adhere to a constitutional text and a need to express feverent patiotism after a national tragedy that imapcted emotionally THROUGHOUT the world, has led to a state that can no longer be recognisable from the idealised one of freedoms and liberties we all here so much about. YOUR freedoms have been eroded, as a result OUR freedoms have been eroded. The administration is not some demonic entity busy at whispers in the night, they are politicians with ideals. The ideal however is WRONG. It is not one guided by morality, though it does have religious undertones, for all the wrong reasons. More relevant here is a national identity embracing an economic identity embracing an world-view ideology that centres around itself. In essence the United States gets to DICTATE, it controls the centre of power.
Would the people of America accept a world order that sees France control that power? How would the US take the invasion of huge numbers of French corporations within its borders? How would the US react to choosing from a list of French films everytime you go to the cinema? Choosing which French fast-food joint for food afterwards? Turning on your TV to see French advert after French advert all in between French sitcom after French sitcom? That aside take the French political ideal being held up to the world as THE WAY to govern, THE WAY to run a country, YOUR country.
Take this last part of the post and really consider it. Look further into the realms where it could intrude on YOUR life. Ask yourself WHY ONE NATION should DICTATE to THE WORLD on how the world SHOULD be run. Ask yourself these questions and more and then try to convince me these ideals are right.

Oil is what greases the West but especially the American economy engine. Without it, the economy would grind to a halt. America's foreign policy is simple, keep the oil prices low and keep the oil flowing. Period. America for some reason believes that the oil around the world belongs to them. It doesn't matter that other people live on top of it, that black gold is US owned. Israel is the client state that keeps the balance of regional power out of the Arabs who control all the oil. For those Arab countries that do not want to tow the line with America, American- weaponized Israel will do the job for them. America needs Israel in the Middle East so they conveniently ignore any "violations" against the Palestinians. Saudi Arabia has a good relationship with the US in keeping the oil prices down. That is why they haven't been invaded yet. Rest assured if the Saudi's decided to raise the price of oil dramatically and the other OPEC countries follow and said the hell with the US, you can bet Saudia Arabia will join the axis of evil. I don't care what anyone says but if Iraq's chief export was coffee beans instead of oil, the US would not have invaded.
Why do you think Israel and the US do not want any Arab countries to become nuclear? It is not because of the fear of nukes being used against them as terrorism, it is because they will lose political influence in the region. If all Arab oil producing countries have nuclear weapons, then the US and Israel will not be able to dictate terms because an invasion by any of the two might mean watching their armed forces get nuked.
To tell you the truth, I believe the world was safer when there were 2 opposing superpowers in the world being the US and the USSR. Why, because they kept each other in check.

I think there are more countries that have an interest in oil than just the US.
Without oil, every country would fall to their knees as you say. That includes the middle-east. If those countries were not dependant on oil, the middle-east would have to learn to use oil as a staple in their diet.

We know that the middle-east has a pretence for violence against it's neighbors. Those neighbors are now looking at protecting them selves from themselves too, not just against the west. They need the west to survive. When China starts using as much oil as the US, and it will, there will be even more unrest as those countries will vie for more oil to supply them and keep their profits growing.
Iran and Syria are drooling over Iraq and Kuwait.
