October 13, 2004 - Everybody's favorite Scottish rock band of the moment, Franz Ferdinand, may be shifting their raucous, hip gears a bit and getting into the wild world of Hollywood filmmaking. At least on the soundtrack side of things, that is.

The band--Bob Hardy, Paul Thomson, Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy--have been approached to write some music for the upcoming fourth installment of the popular Harry Potter film franchise. And in a move the eerily mimicks the N'Snyc/Episode 2 rumors of the past, the band could potentially end up with a cameo in the film, as well.

According to an interview with VH1, frontman Alex Kapranos hinted that he and the rest of the FF gents have "been asked to write some music. There's a section where there's a band of ugly sisters playing and I think, well… some members of Franz Ferdinand may be the ugly sisters in the band."

This will not be the first time that the Harry Potter films have featured popular musicians in cameo spots. Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban

He continued: "There's an excitement and innocence about those films. I like how there's good and evil, and that's a clarity which is quite refreshing."

The most recent film, 'Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban', featured a cameo from Stone Roses' Ian Brown.

FRANZ FERDINAND PULL OUT OF POTTER FILM

Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand have pulled out of a cameo appearance in the next Harry Potter film -- amid rumors of tension within the band.

The four-piece were asked to appear as a gang of witches, called the Wyrd Sisters, in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," which has just begun filming.

But the band has now canceled, blaming scheduling difficulties. A spokesperson says, "They can't make the film because of scheduling."

But sources claim a backstage bust-up between frontman Alex Kapranos and guitarist Nick McCarthy in Paris earlier this month is the real reason for the change of heart.

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood will play the witches instead.
