Diamonds are a girl's best friends, and Nicole Kidman only seems to reinforcing the idea in her new 12 million dollar ad campaign for Chanel No.5, which features herwearing custom-designed outfits by Karl Lagerfeld, and jewellery worth 42 million dollars including a special piece studded with 687 diamonds.
The ad directed by Nicole's old friend and Moulin Rouge collaborator Baz Luhrman, has set Nicole as a style icon."She is a composition of all the iconic women who had, or very well could have had, some relationship with Chanel, from Marilyn Monroe to Jacqueline Kennedy, Maria Callas, Catherine Deneuve, Princess Diana and, now, Nicole," Luhrman was quoted by The Daily Telegraph as saying.
Bosses at the Karl Lagerfeld are euphoric about Nicole's association with their products."We've been dreaming of her for many years. For us, she is the most iconic person you could ever find," president Francoise Montenay, was quoted as saying. ANI

| Posted by: schmiggens | | She looks divine in this ad, it is very well-done, but is based heavily on a Moulin-Rouge type of storyline, which is kind of boring. The jewellery is amazing. They say that most of the cost for the ad though was Nicole's pay, she's supposed to have got $6 million for it. Wowsers! | | Reply To this Message

Karl Lagerfeld held a star-studded dinner for Nicole Kidman at his Hotel Pozzo di Borgo home on Sunday night to mark the launch of Chanel No. 5's biggest advertising campaign ever.
The star guests were Kidman and the advert's director Baz Luhrmann. Other guests in attendance included Princess Caroline of Hanover, Sofia Coppola, Stella McCartney, Jefferson Hack, Eva Herzigova and Linda Evangelista.
The front of the invitations featured a Lagerfeld drawing of Kidman wearing a billowing gown and ostrich feathers complete with a 350-diamond necklace -- the same ensemble she wears in the opening scenes of the new No. 5 ad.
The three-minute spectacle is trademark Luhrmann and cost an estimated $9 million to make. Kidman stars alongside Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro in a romantic yet doomed tale of love set to a classical backing.
Kidman says, "It was great fun. Baz and I talked about every love story from 'Romeo and Juliet' onwards."

| Posted by: schmiggens | | I don't get why Chanel need to advertise No. 5. It their most famous perfume, but I guess young kids don't like it much? Maybe. It reminds me too much of my mum, I would never buy it. | | Reply To this Message

Scent of success ... Nicole Kidman in the Chanel No.5 ad
She was paid $5 million for four days' work shooting a perfume commercial for Chanel No. 5.
The two-minute advertisement is based on her performance in Baz Luhrmann's film Moulin Rouge.
With Luhrmann again in charge, it features Kidman wearing $41 million worth of diamonds.
And with a budget of $60 million, it cost more than many Hollywood movies to make.
Karl Lagerfeld made Kidman's costumes, including a pink gown with a billowing train, ostrich feathers and a diamond necklace almost 1m long.
She is seen running from screaming fans and photographers into a taxi, where she finds a young writer – played by Love Actually actor Rodrigo Santoro – on the back seat.
They embrace on the roof of his apartment where the enormous double "C" of the Chanel logo is lit up.
But she decides not to quit her glamorous life and the man is left with the memory, according to the commercial, of "her kiss, her smile, her perfume".
The ad will debut in cinemas on November 12.
