The bride-to-be was careful to keep out of the groom's sight.

But it was not hard to spot Elin Nordegren as she relaxed on the beach before her wedding to Tiger Woods yesterday.

The former nanny spent her last days as a single woman sunbathing with friends and family while the millionaire golfer enjoyed some last-minute fishing.

The couple have been staying at the Sandy Lane resort in Barbados in the lead-up to yesterday's sunset ceremony.

Woods, 28, thought to be worth £ 200million, is said to have spent close to £1million to make it an evening they and their guests will never forget.

At his request, 10,000 black roses were flown in to decorate the banquet room at the hotel's country club house where the finest caviar and vintage champagne was on ice.

Family and friends mingled with guests said to include Venus and Serena Williams, Oprah Winfrey, Britney Spears and Bill Gates.

Woods booked out the 112-room hotel for nine nights at a cost of £780,000 to ensure maximum privacy.

Armed police and security men guarded the hotel grounds and beach while coastguards and police launches patrolled the St James shore to ward off unwanted sightseers.

Miss Nordegren, 24, stayed in the hotel's £16,000-a-night villa in the days before the wedding.

Woods spent two nights on board the yacht Privacy - hired for a fortnight for another £70,000 - just off shore.

Before his arrival, his fiancee and her friends had been using it for daily diving expeditions, in which they swam with turtles and snorkelled. Woods arrived in Barbados on Sunday night on a private jet from a golf tournament in Thomastown, Ireland.

He was up before 6am the following day for a fishing expedition. The couple were expected to exchange vows on the beach as the sun set yesterday.

When not on the road because of his golf, Woods and Miss Nordegren, the daughter of a Swedish politician, divide their time between California and Florida.

She was working as a nanny for Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik when she met Woods three years ago at the British Open.

Life on the golf course hasn't been as smooth as the couple's romance. Woods recently slipped to number three in the world rankings.

OPRAH INSISTS SHE WASN'T AT TIGER'S WEDDING

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey is so fed up with people wrongly assuming she attended Tiger Woods' wedding, she's now started to pretend she was there.

Golf ace Woods and Swedish model Erin Nordegren exchanged nuptials in a ceremony on the Caribbean island of Barbados last Tuesday. And while it has been reported that Winfrey was one of the guests at the wedding, she insists she wasn't even invited.

She says, "I woke up this morning, I went to the gym and the people said, 'How did you get back so soon?' I said, 'Where was I?' They said, 'Weren't you just at a wedding? Tiger Woods' wedding?'

"I was not! I got asked so many times this morning, I started to just say, 'It was great.'

"By the time I was walking out, somebody said, 'Oh, how was the wedding?' And I had to go through the, 'Well, I really wasn't invited.' That (story) was just totally made up."
