Eminem could go to number one with Just Lose It
Rapper Eminem's new single has become his highest entry on the US singles chart, and the highest new entry of 2004 for a non-American Idol release.
Just Lose It, the first single from his new album Encore, went in at number 17.
The star's two previous highest entries were Lose Yourself at 43 and Without Me at 44, both in 2002.
But American Idol 3 winner Fantasia had a new entry at number one in July. Ciara featuring Petey Pablo stayed in the top spot this week with Goodies.
Top spot
Just Lose It is the fourth highest new entry of the year.
The song is one of two debuts in the top half of the chart, along with Vertigo, by U2 at 46.
It is the highest debut for a U2 single since Staring at the Sun entered at number 30 in April 1997.
The high debuts of both songs make U2 and Eminem candidates for the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | God knows how he got the highest selling single. This new song is the biggest load of I have ever heard. Can't he write anything new? It's just a mish-mash of all his old songs. It's ridiculous. | | Reply To this Message

THE biggest singles chart battle of the year came to a close last night with EMINEM being crowned king. The rapper's Just Lose It beat DESTINY'S CHILD, BRITNEY and CHRISTINA AGUILERA to nick the No1.
Em's victory nicely tees up the release of his album Encore this week. As The Sun revealed, it is being rushed out ahead of schedule on Friday after it was leaked on the internet last week.
SIMON COWELL's popera quartet IL DIVO triumphed in the album charts, knocking ROBBIE WILLIAMS off top spot.

Eminem has knocked off Delta Goodrem and beaten Destiny's Child to be number one on the Australian singles chart this week, with his latest hit Just Lose It.
The white rapper debuts in the top spot, while Joel Turner and the Modern Day Poets stay at two with These Kids and Goodrem's Out of the Blue drops from one to three.
The week's other big debut is from the recently-reformed Destiny's Child, who are at five with Lose My Breath.
On the Australian albums chart, Robbie Williams' Greatest Hits holds onto number one.
Brisbane band Powderfinger is at number two with the release of its best-of album, Fingerprints, while Live, and their greatest hits album, titled Awake, is at four.
