| Pen Can Open Gun Cabinets
Stack-On Products Offers Lock Replacements
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The pen has long been mightier than the sword, but now it is mightier than bicycle locks and gun cabinets.
A company that makes gun cabinets said it's discovered that a pen can be used to open a lock on some of its cabinets.
Susan Eckhoff, of Stack-On Products, said the Wauconda, Ill., company is in the process of contacting retailers nationwide to alert them about the problem and offer free lock replacements.
Eckhoff said the company became aware of the potential problem when an Iowa man contacted its customer service office and said he could breach the lock on his cabinet with a pen. She said the company's engineers found that they could open a few of the locks with pens as well.
Earlier this month, bike lock maker Kryptonite learned that its famous U-lock could be foiled by a pen. | |
