BitTorrent Guide, Start to Finish:

Welcome to my very first guide, talking about how to efficently use BitTorrent clients and downloading these files. Using

torrents as opposed to downloading regular files from Kazaa is much easier and more efficent.

The following guide has been made from my own knoweledge and resources such as filesoup, suprnova, and other guides.

How It works:

Bit Torrent uses a system where the user looking for a file, doesn't download that file from a central server that can be

cramped or overloaded, it downloads it from many users all over the world. It makes downloading CD's and movies a breeze.

Here is an analogy I have made.

Think of it as conference calling. Person A calls Person B who calls Person C, so on and so on until there are 20 people all

talking to eachother. Pretend that all of those people have taped different parts of a movie. Each person getting 3

minutes. And one person has the whole thing. Instead of everyone going to that one peson to get the whole thing, they share

the time and then they don't have to wait as long. They all combine them together, and then then they all have the movie.

What You Need:

You need a client. Think of it as a Kazaa or Limeware without the search function. It takes the .torrent files (the files

you will be downoading) and converts them into the raw data (ie: .mp3s, .avis, etc.). There are many clients out there.

Here is a quick list of them.

I suggest Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/), but you can see a list of them at dessent

Now you have the program, but nothing to download. The way you find files is using your browser. There are many sites to go

to, I'll list a few:

Suprnova (http://suprnova.org/)
bt.etree (http://bt.etree.org/index.php)
TorrentReactor (http://www.torrentreactor.net/index.php)
LokiTorrent (http://www.lokitorrent.com/index.php)
and FileSoup (http://www.Filesoup.com)

You can also find a listing of many bittorrent sites at bksites (http://www.btsites.tk/).

Once you find what you are looking for, click the link and it will ask you if you want to download that file or open it. It

should be a .torrent file. Once you open it, it will start to download in your client. Wait for a few minutes and it should

start to speed up. If its a good torrent with lots of seeds, it will eat up a ton fo your bandwidth, so I suggest if you are

going to be doing anything else while. To do that, you want to go to your prefrences, and set them there.

When I want a song by an artist and I don't know the CD, this is what I do:

1.) I go to Amazon.com under music. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...8084303-5495827)

2.) I search the title of the song.

3.) I find the artist of whats listed there, and there you will see the CD name.

For example, if I heard the song Sweet Child o' Mine by Guns 'n Roses and wanted it, I would go to amazon and search "Sweet Child o' Mine (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/s...8084303-5495827), and see the CD name was on both 'Appetite for Destruction' and 'Greatest Hits.' Then I would go to SuprNova (http://www.suprnova.org), and either searched it, or went to Music, then to Rock, and scrolled down until I saw it.

Thats it for now, I might add thing as times go by. I might even link to torrents sometime that I have used. Keep in mind,

once you download a torrent, seed it until 100%, that mans that you shouldn't delete it from the uploading area for a good

hour or so. Help the community that has helped you.
