ROFL, so far, 2 sentences for each of our individual posts!

I KNOW we three are bigger talkers than that, so why are we shy here???

I'm going to see if the Amish will take me in.

They will laugh at my ignorance when I do not know how to till a field or raise a barn.

Well at least my kids will not grow up to be cafe-latte drinking yuppies that drive riced-out cars.

Because I don't want to give away my secrets. What if Big Brother is listening in?

Actually, this issue is my biggest problem with our government, with our corporations, with the banking industry. They are all tied into this.
Everything we have EVER said or done on this internet can be tracked and brought up. Everywhere we go on this internet is stamped with our IP (notice my "location."). With the new Patriot Act, this can be accessed without our knowing and without a court order. So we're screwed.

Yes, I saw Enemy of the State. It is my FAVORITE movie. I own it.

That's why I want to live off the grid. Not because I have nothing to hide, but because I am tired of my privacy constantly being infringed upon.

I called a computer retail store yesterday for a price and availability for something. She asked for my zip code. I told her to make one up. She insisted I give her my zip code. I finally screamed in the phone and slammed down the phone. I don't care you don't need my dam zip code for a price and availability inquiry OR a purchase.

We have those stupid cards to use in our grocery stores for discounts. I told the cashier I don't want one. She told me I could save money. I told her I used to work for the company who compiled the purchasing information. They sell the information to companies and they give it to the government.
Why the hell does the government need to know that I eat Dreyers ice cream for? I asked one of the executives of the company why they gave the info to the feds and he told me because they are accountable to the government.
This company has the audacity to claim a privacy policy. Crap. Utter crap.

The eye in the sky. (Poke it out) You can't run and you can't hide.

Well, maybe I'll just live under a lead shed.
That's gotta be where Osama been hiding too. Dam when they gonna find that SOB? He's got WAY too much privacy!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, on the bonus card/discount card topic...

Obviously, the purchasing information is used for marketing...and I'm fine with that...and honestly, I don't care who knows what brand of deodorant or TV dinners, I tend to buy. But if the government is tracking this info...I'd like to know why or, how is this information useful.

Here's my concern...I don't want to end up on a "no-fly" list someday because I coincidently purchased toothpaste during the same month that I bought a flashlight, or some crazy thing like that. I don't like the idea of being classified or profiled by my spurious shopping habits. (Because honestly, I'm usually just buying what's on sale).

I am worried that, in Salem Witch Trial-Style, innocent people may end up suffering if this continues.

I am right there with you Anomaly77.

They are hassling people right and left at the airports.
People have no idea why they are not allowed to fly and why they are searched over and over.

I heard that a few weeks ago Jesse Jackson was bothered by security 10 times in one day...searches, scans, searches, scans.
If Jesse Jackson is a terrorist, we are all in trouble.

The reason why I am concerned about the purchasing information for marketing strategies is because there are websites all over the internet that can pinpoint trends in my zipcode. And they are getting even more specific than that.

I don't like receiving spam email and snail mail unsolicited because I gave up my demographics to save $5.00. It's just a pet peeve and I do find it intrusive.
One strategy is to fill out the application for the card, but give bogus info.
