What were the saddest moments in the Harry Potter series? Is there any part that made you tear up?

For me, when Dumbledore is talking to Harry in his office after Sirius went through the veil was the saddest moment. Albus telling Harry that he loved him and cared more for his happiness than the lives of unknown victims who could die at Voldemorts hands. Harry being unable to accept that love was heartbreaking and so was Dumbledore realizing that his protecting Harry cost them Sirius.

When Peter turned back in to Scabbers and got away, and Sirius wasn't cleared of the charges, and Harry didn't get to "go home" with him, but had to return to the Dursley's.

When Harry talked to Sir Nick about Sirius being a ghost. That was so sad.

That was very sad.
There's also seeing the condition Neville's mom is in. And when Harry uncovered the walkie-talkie mirror and realized he could of kept the whole thing from happening, and being so frustrated that he broke it.

The whole fifth book was like depressing.... but other than everything bad that happened in the fifth book , i think it had to be in POA when harry heard his mom and dad screaming in his head around the dementors.

Basically when I finished the fifth book it just left me feeling sort of wierd, like it was unfinished, and I think it was because it finished so unhappily.

And Lupin's shocked reaction when Harry told him.

The saddest part of the books so far was the death of Cedric because it was so sudden and unexpected. It really hit me. The death of Sirius was painful too, but I was almost expecting it. I was ready, but I wasn't ready for Cedric's.

I agree. And everything from that moment on in book 4 felt really unreal to me - I couldn't get over Cedric's death. Another of my saddest moments was in that book when Harry gets back. He's in Dumbledore's office, and Dumbledore wants Harry to recount exactly what happened...Sirius says something like, "Can't this wait?" and Dumbledore says, "Numbing the pain for a while will only make it worse when you finally feel it. You have shown braevery beyond anything I could have expected from you..." That just made me feel so bad for Harry and everything he goes through.

I felt bad for Hagrid in the first book for having to give up Norbert. I mean I lost a pet that I cared greatly for about two years ago now and you just have sympathy for others who feel that.

Just to add the death of Sirius would have effected Harry more than Cedrics death because he had had the chance to get to know Sirius personally and he had just got to know Cedric during the tournament. He knew Sirius as a person and loved him like family where as cedric was just an aquaintence really.

Let me reiterate slightly.

About six years ago I lost my Nan whom I loved dearly. I was extreamly attached to her but because she had an argument with my Mum and Dad she moved out and went to an old peoples home. One week at around March time I decided that I would visit her in the next few day having not seen her for over a year. The next day I returned home from school to be told that she had passed away during the night.

I will always regret never going to see her that day I decided to and I still havent really come to terms with that.

As for Harry, he has lost the only Father figure he ever had and I would not be supprised if it has an effect on the new book. Because he loved Sirius as he did it will take him a while to get over his passing, speaking from my own experiances really, though I certainly cannot compare my life to that of this fictional character.

I did not go to the hospital when my dad went in for the last time. I arranged for his oncologist to meet him there, but I did not go because he was so ill that he would forget how many kids he had. I still feel bad that I did not go to see him in the morning. We were told to wait for the tests to be done. He passed around 2. That was 13 years ago and I still feel sad at times.

Sirius's death will be filled with regret because Harry loved him. It is quite normal to have feelings of regret when we lose someone dear to us. Still, it was a hard loss in the HP world.
