| Posted by: devildog | | Yes they should.
I am also a huge Floyd fan.I have everything they ever did
(except the stuff with Barrett). For some reason I am partial to animals and the final cut. David Gilmour is one of the best ever!!! Ever see them? Aren't they due? Damn! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: devildog | | They are fantastic live. One of the best shows I have seen( I've seen many). Being a guitarist, I must disagree. I think Gilmour added to that band which Roger could not. Yes Roger is an incredible writer but look at the Division Bell or Momentary Lapse of Reason. They sound very "floyd" like. This tells us how important his role was. I don't care for Rogers albums that much( Pro's and cons of hitchhiking, etc). Do you? However I did see Roger after Floyd and DAMN was that awesome. Of course it was all floyd material. The guitarist he used did exactly what he should have done- copy David to a tee! Why don't these front men learn that they won't make it without the band? How many examples are there for them to see? The only success stories that I can think of off the top of my head are Paul McCartney( Beatles), and Sting( Police). I'm sure there are more that escape me but there are many failures. We got ripped off! Thanks Roger. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: diehardfloyd1 | | the thing i love about waters is his lyrics, they are so unique, but i do love gilmour when he gets going on the guitar(comfortably numb)but you are right about going solo.i didnt like waters new material at all.if you listen to the division bell album,it does sound popish, doesnt it?dont get me wrong it isnt there worse produced stuff since waters flew the nest.i do like poles apart.you do have to be in the right mood to listen to the wall and the final cut albums(know what i mean?)
robbie williams has made it,when he split from take that, infact he is the biggest thing over here. | | Reply To this Message

I've seen them twice. They are, after all, my favorite. I do infact feel lucky and I do know what you mean. However, I am always in the mood for Floyd. I just put some on. DOGS!! They have to tour again so don't miss 'em. It's been waaay too long.
Where are you? Sounds like you are in their neck of the woods. When I saw them last, I bought VIP tickets. They had a "lottery" drawing for tickets and I was the 14th to get tickets so I took advantage- or so I thought. The rocket scientist who set up the VIP area( Tampa Stadium) figured that we where interested in watching the light show so we had great seats for that. However, the cheaper tickets were on the floor. I didn't want to see lasers, man! I would've been happiest with a tunnel vision of Davids fingers.

| Posted by: nikiTa | | Need I remind you of this PF song and how it relates to the terrorism/Iraq/Iran/Israel&Palestine forums? I remember how this song affected me in high school...and I am reminded of my idealistic beliefs. (They are still inside)
Us and Them
(Waters, Wright) 7:40
Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.
"I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"
Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: devildog | | I just came back to this thread since it was moved. Yes, Truth that is an awesome song, however I do not recall the below words in the song. I guess I should go look.

| Posted by: devildog | | Well damn, they are in there. Some Floyd website confirmed it. Now I have to go play the song. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: devildog | | I don't feel too bad. They are the spoken words in between verses. They are VERY hard to distinguish. Thanks for the education. I thought there was nothing left to discover. I would have lost a bet on that one.
I love music and I usually catch that kind of stuff. Similar verses that I am aware of are " I certainly was in the right" and " I was kinda drunk at the time". They may even be from the same song. Obviously it is time to grab 5 discs at a time and shuffle them. Well actually, Floyd is one band that shouldn't be shuffled, but you know what I mean. | | Reply To this Message
