Pop singer Britney Spears performs Saturday, June 5, 2004, at the Rock in Rio-Lisboa music festival in Lisbon, Portugal.
NEW YORK (AP) - Pop star Britney Spears is a new crossover artist in the beauty business. The 22-year-old singer will launch a new fragrance, Curious, this fall. A blend of white flowers and vanilla-infused musk, the fragrance is part of a licensing agreement with Elizabeth Arden, the company announced Thursday.
Spears is a "talented, fashionable woman who appeals to a young and international consumer base," said Paul West, president of Elizabeth Arden, in a statement.
Packaging for Curious will feature two of Spears' favorite colors, pink and azure blue, and the bottle will be azure with heart-shaped charms.
A scented whipped body cream, shower gel and solid "shimmer stick" will debut in department stores in September, the company said. |

LONDON - Britney Spears is to star in a provocative new online advertising campaign for the Elizabeth Arden fragrance Curious.
The ad shows Spears and a male model, who bares a resemblance to her fiance Kevin Federline, exchanging glances at a hotel's front desk. He then checks into his room, and a short while later Spears knocks on the door. The spot will launch on Elizabeth Arden's website on September 17 in the Britney Spears Beauty section.
Spears signed a deal in March to develop and market a range of cosmetics, skincare products and fragrances in association with Elizabeth Arden to widen the brand's appeal to a younger audience. The popstar has also starred in ads for Pepsi and Skechers.

Whether it's her upcoming marriage to KEVIN FEDERLINE, her new single, or the launch of her fabulous first fragrance -- pop princess BRITNEY SPEARS always has something up her sleeve.
So, naturally, our STEVEN COJOCARU was more than a little "Curious" to hear what the 22-year-old songbird has planned next!
She's been developing her own perfume, skincare and makeup line with ELIZABETH ARDEN, and her first fragrance, "Curious," hits Macy's, Robinson's-May and Nordstrom this month.
"I think it's very nice when you're kissing the one you love," the bride-and-stepmother-to-be of two says. "[Kevin] totally approved it. He loves it. You know, he just says, 'Come kiss me, baby!'"

It is reported to show Britney with a man looking like her fiancé Kevin Federline walking up to a hotel's front desk and exchanging glances.
He checks into his room, and a little later a knock on his door reveals the 22-year-old blonde beauty standing outside.
The clip will debut on a newly-launched Elizabeth Arden website for Britney Spears Beauty (www.elizabetharden.com/Britney).

Newlywed Britney Spears has strong advice for women wanting to feel sexy -- buy her new perfume, Curious.
The singer, who wed dancer Kevin Federline in a surprise ceremony on Saturday, insists her new scent has all of the right elements to make the average woman feel sensual.
She says, "It's very sensual smelling. It's got a little bit of a vanilla musk to it, but not too sweet.
"It's very sexy, ladies. I seriously suggest to be sexy, to go out and get it, seriously."

Pop-singer Britney Spears may be using forbidden "hypnotic Selling" methods in her TV commercial promoting her new fragrance.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 28, 2004 -- Austin, TX Pop-singer Britney Spears may be using forbidden "Hypnotic Selling" methods in her TV commercial promoting her new fragrance, "Curious", claims marketing expert Dr. Joe Vitale.
"Her ad plays on sexuality, mystery, and curiosity," explains Vitale, President of Hypnotic Marketing, Inc., in Austin, Texas, and a a specialist on hypnotic persuasion methods. He adds, "Even the name of her product invokes the most powerful motivator of all: Curiosity."
Spears announced her new product at Macy's in New York City on September 14th. She's being paid an estimated $12 million to promote the Elizabeth Arden product.
"Unless her perfume truly stinks, people are going to buy it almost mindlessly," say Vitale, who is giving a webcast on October 5th to alert people to how hypnotic persuasion methods work.
Vitale says the TV commercial featuring Spears begins with images that seem to be a soap opera, but then quickly become a forbidden intimacy fantasy come to life. The ad almost dares you to buy the perfume, he adds.
"People begin watching the commerical because they are attracted to the unknown," explains Vitale. "They're not sure who the cute woman is, or what she is doing. Their minds are being drawn in. Then, when they learn that it is for a new perfume, the name of it gets lodged in the brain, almost without your thinking about it. This is truly hypnotic."
Hypnosis has been used for pain management for more than a hundred years, and was accepted by the American Medical Association back in the 1950s. But using hypnotic technigues in selling is new.
"Anything that can get a message into your mind will be tried by advertisers," says Vitale, who uses what he calls Ethical Hypnosis in selling.
"When is it manipulation and when is it persuasion is the real question," asks Vitale, a certified hypnotherapist as well as author of such books as "Hypnotic Writing."

The Britney Spears' Curious fragrance was launched in U.S. department stores in September and has exceeded both retailer and industry expectations.
It is currently the number one ranked fragrance in U.S. department stores, and while it is early, we anticipate this fragrance will continue to perform well for the remainder of the year.
Additionally in September, we launched Elizabeth Arden Provocative Woman in our international and travel retail markets, and based on both retail results thus far and a strong advertising campaign, we are looking forward to good holiday season results."

Britney's perfume is currently the top seller in Amazon's beauty products. It is selling from $20-$45. It has been at #1 for all of November.
In other news, it turns out pop star Jessica Simpson, who recently started the Dessert body scent line, is curious to see how other celebrity products match up to hers. The Newlyweds star was spotted last week in a Baton Rouge, La., mall taking a whiff of Britney Spears's new perfume, Curious. 'She smelled Britney Spears,' a Foley's store sales associate tells PEOPLE, though Simpson didn't end up buying any.

Curious made $40-$50 million in the US alone
When it comes down to it, the beauty business is all about glamour, and who better to portray it than the stars themselves? In fact, Spears’ star power was so potent that it blew stocks right off the shelves of Macy’s New York in the first three weeks of its launch. In anticipation of Curious’ record-breaking results, expecting first-year sales of US$40-US$50 million in sales in the U.S. alone, the global prestige fragrance and beauty products company signed up suppliers that included packagers FiberMark, RK and Heinz Glas geared with high-volume capacity and quick turnaround time to support a heavy demand product.
Last March, Elizabeth Arden announced the signing of an exclusive global licensing agreement with Britney Spears, a deal that some reports estimate could net Spears between US$10 million to US$20 million over the next five years. The contract requires Spears’ collaboration in the development and marketing of a fragrance, skin care and color cosmetics line backed by the singer’s exclusive endorsement.
The creation of Britney Spears’ own beauty line completes Elizabeth Arden’s brand portfolio by targeting the growing global tween to young-adult market, a more lucrative demographic than the company’s other lines endorsed by actresses Elizabeth Taylor and Catherine Zeta-Jones. “The target for Curious is women ages 15 to 30. This is a younger demographic than those formerly targeted,” indicated sources at Elizabeth Arden.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Britney wins the smell competition with Paris
First, terrible sales of her "autobiography." Then she misses the Miami opening of her own Club Paris because of "flight delays." And now Paris Hilton can't even sell her scent - something Donald Trump is even managing - especially compared to Britney Spears.
The pop singer (oh ****, we need to clarify that superlative now, don't we? We mean Britney) teamed with Elizabeth Arden to create Curious (and the ridiculously camp television spot to go with it) while Paris went with Parlux to create (who called this one?) Paris - "and it shows." Maybe she should stick to apparel and come out with her own Guess? lingerie line: "As seen in Vincent Gallo's Bunny."

Spears' 'sex ad' gets late TV slot
A STEAMY advert that shows Britney Spears having sex in a hotel room will be screened during the TV coverage of The Brits. Viewers will see the pop singer's bare legs entwined with a mystery stranger's, and will also watch as she rakes her fingernails across his back.
The sexy, 30-second-long commercial is so raunchy it has been given 'restricted' status, meaning it can only be broadcast after 7.30pm. The daring television advert has been designed to promote the perfume Curious, a signature fragrance which has been developed for Britney by cosmetics giant Elizabeth Arden.
It will no doubt reinforce twice-married Britney's bad girl image.
A representative for the 22-year-old singer said: 'Like Britney's persona, the ad is provocative in nature. It encapsulates moments of impulse, contemplation and temptation. As the ad unfolds, the anticipation and excitement builds.' With a theme of 'do you dare?' the ad opens with Britney entering her hotel room, while a male stranger enters the room next door.
The plot unfolds with Britney, wearing a skimpy pink camisole top and jeans, fantasising about her handsome male neighbour. Before long she is seen going next door and within seconds the pair are writhing around naked on the bed together before moving to the shower. At one point Britney's hand can be seen pressed against the inside of the steamed-up shower cubicle window as she romps with her man.
But the viewers are kept guessing as to whether the sex really happened - or if it was just a fantasy.
The pop star insisted on doing all the scenes herself in the advert, refusing the offer of a 'body double' for even the naked shots.
Her mystery lover is played by hunky male model Eric Winter. When the ad was shot last year it was reported Britney's new hubby Kevin Federline was so consumed with jealousy at the sexy scenes that the pair had a massive bust up on set.
The advert was created by Goodby, Silverstein and Partners and directed by acclaimed music director Dave Myers.
The star's new perfume doesn't go on sale in Britain until next month, but the commercial will be receiving its British debut tomorrow night during the coverage of The Brits. Its 'restricted' status from the Broadcasting Advertising Clearance Centre means it must only be screened on television after 7.30pm. Images from the advert are already available to see on the internet, and it has been shown on TV in the United States.
Britney's Curious Eau de Parfum, made by Elizabeth Arden, is priced from £20 and will be on sale from mid-March.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | That sounds a bit more raunchy than the ad they're playing over here. There's no shower scene in the one they're playing in Australia, they do roll about on the bed, but no shower.
Gonna have to track it down and see it now .... | | Reply To this Message

In the latest issue of Complete Woman Magazine (with Eva Longoria on the cover), a panel of guys rate & rank some of the hot fragrances out now. One of those just happens to be our very own B's Curious.
Celebrity scents
Not only are the stars entertaining us on the silver screen and on stage, they're giving us sweet smells with signature fragrances. If the celebs are making them, and wearing them, should you be trying them out? CW's Terra Cooney gather a panel of CW sniff-testers to find out what men really think about the perfumes of the stars - and if they'd go crazy smelling them on you!
Britney Spears' Curious
Jumping on the bandwagon and creating her own scent, Britney Spears captured her signature beatuy in a bottle and labeled it Curious. The blonde bombshell teamed up with Los Angeles-based Brand Sense Marketing (those who brokered Elizabeth Arden) and came up with a white floral eau de parfum accented with Louisiana magnolia (to represent her Southern roots) and vanilla-infused musk. Oops...did she do it again? Our guy panel is here to let us know if it's tempting or toxic...
Dan Says, "This smells good. It's kind of a summery smell. It reminds me of down South and the ocean; it's very fresh. This works for all age groups. I would be all over this girl because it seems like she really takes care of herself!"
Marlon Says, "[The person who wears this] is just a regular, everyday type of person,. It doesn't bring forth a style for me. It's an attractive smell but it's not something that stands out. She could honestly wear this anywhere."
Jon Says, "It's nice, subtle, sweet. Someone who wears this has style. She's sexy and maybe somewhere between 20 and 40 years old. She's really aware of what she's wearing and I'd be drawn to the person wearing this because it's not overpowering. I feel like she could go out for a night on the town or for any occasion with this."
Avi Says, "This is a fun, flirty woman in her 20s. A really sexy woman probably wears this perfume. I really like it and it would definitely catch my attention. This smells really, really good."
Shannon Says, "It's clean, I smell the outside and flowers. This is someone who likes to go out. She's a leader, not a follower. It's very attractive. This fragrance would make someone step to you, because it's real nice and subtle. Someone who is laid-back could wear it on a first date!"
