JK Rowling Hints at Harry's Future |

JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, teased young fans yesterday about the future of the young wizard during a reading at the Edinburgh book festival.
The writer revealed a few morsels about her hero, including the revelation that he "survives to book seven", although she refused to confirm whether he would grow up to be a wizard.
She also revealed that there were two vital questions she had never been asked about the series which might help to unravel its mysteries.
She said they should be asking themselves "not 'why did Harry live' but 'why didn't Voldemort die?'" The second question, she added cryptically, is: "Why didn't Dumbledore kill, or try to kill, Voldemort?"
Performing her first public reading in Scotland for four years, the 39-year-old author read a passage from her fifth Potter novel, the Order of the Phoenix. It was a far cry from the first time she turned up to the event in 1997 when, as Joanne Rowling, she read to just 30 people in a teepee.
She was asked whether Harry would "grow up as a wizard", to which she replied: "He will survive to book seven, mainly because I don't want to be strangled by you lot, but I don't want to say whether he grows any older than that."
But she remained tight-lipped about the title of her final book in the series, saying: "I'm not going to tell you, I'm sorry. The trouble I would be in if I did!" | | Reply To this Message

More 'Prince' hints from JK Rowling
Two fans who attended Harry Potter author JK Rowling's reading at the Edinburgh International Book Festival have filed reports with various fan sites.
While the author was there to read from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, most fans were more curious about the upcoming sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (Veritaserum has three high-resolution photos of Rowling from the event.)
MuggleNet has compiled two accounts of meeting Rowling. In the first, attendee Joanna asks her some direct questions and gets some indirect answers, as is the author's style:
Firstly, I asked if there was a reason why Ginny Weasley is always associated with cats (she is described by Percy in COS as being a cat lover, is often described as being curled up like a cat and once made a noise 'like an angry cat') but J.K. answered 'No, there's not, although you are obviously a very careful reader.'
... what would happen to Kreacher and 12 Grimmauld Place now that Sirius has gone? Although she dodged this question well she did say that we will find that out very early on, right at the start of the next book.
... I then asked if it was still the headquarters of the Order [and] she just said 'You'll find that out too!'
The other report, from fan Ethan, talks more about the experience of actually meeting Jo:
I was really nervous, but she held her hand out and I shook it. I said, "Hi, your books are great," and she said, "Thanks" ... it was amazing, the whole thing! I was absolutely ecstatic beyond belief.
HarryPotterFanZone also has a video from Ethan that captures the atmosphere of the event. |

| Posted by: figi | | adityamahesh....tut, tut, tut. I met Madeline L'Engle when I was twelve, and I was so nervous all I could say was "er, I've read all your books...." and she said something along the lines of great, thanks, etc...she might have asked which was my fav. don't remember - I was kind of in awe and mostly speechless.
And yeah, that WAS amazing. I suspect, and kind of hope you've never met anyone you respected so highly, because if you have and you'd still say something like that, then your world must be completely devoid of magical happenings, and that's sad.
We should also feel uplifted that there are still kids out there who get excited and NERVOUS to meet writers (and other kinds of artists), instead of just classic celebrities like movie/tv stars and teenyboppers. | | Reply To this Message

Welcome to inreview by the way. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: adityamahesh | | Figi, frankly, I don't care about celebrities, actors/actresses, and especially not teenyboppers. I respect Rowling because she is a good writer. I am glad that children would rather become excited to meet her than some talentless idiot, but nowhere does it say that Ethan is a young kid. I am happy for him that he became "ecstatic beyond belief" when J. K. Rowling thanked him for his compliments, but I for one do not see what is so overwhelmingly elating about it. And also, it is not as if the person said it in a moment of overexcitedness. It was written in a report that was published on a website. So pardon me if I daresay that Ethan was a bit over-reacting. Maybe Ethan needs a bit more excitement in some other areas of his life.
Anyway, back to Harry's future. As I have opined before, I think that Harry will not live after Book 7, atleast not in his current corporeal form, but that is just my opinion of course.
