This is an Aaliyah forum, not an Ashanti forum. Can someone PLEASE explain this to me. Why is there such a rivalry between the tw? How did it start? Who started it? I don't get it.

i think it's the whole black female rnb singer and if u consider that their names are quite similar (start with an A and both have 3 syllables) it's inevitable that ppl would assume that ashanti was tryin to fill aaliyahs space...i personally think that since aaliyah god bless her soul has passed on ashanti should get a chance because the fact is she is not aaliyah and i don't think she has any intention of trying to be either...

See i heard alot of different things from what ya'll just said. One reason is because when Aaliyah died Ashante came out with her song and people liked it and somewhere along the way she started to be called the "new princess of hip-hop and r&b" (w/e the category was). And people didnt like that i guess because it was Aaliyah's spot. And then people started to cmpare them and since Aaliyah is "so called" better than Ashante poeple just said she cant sing.

I dont hate ashanti for that. I just hate ashanti

I think Ashanti is aight the only song I like is "Only You" and thats it but she don't sound that bad I guess. But Aaliyah that is my girl I wish she was still alive cause if she was they every1 would say Ashanti is a sell out. To make a long story short (I have never bought one of her CD's:HINT HINT). Aaliyah I LOVE her she is my gurl (I have all her CD's:HINT HINT; and I lOVE her anotha HINT HINT).
