My first thread ever! Yay!

Snape. What do you think? There's obviously more we don't know yet, about why he reformed, why Dumbledore trusts him, and if he can be trusted. And what he's doing now.

I do think Snape is a good guy. Dumbledore trusts him for a reason, and he did save Harry's life in the first book. But I don't think he was always a good guy. I think he did start out bad. But Lily did defend him, and I think he may have had a soft spot for her. So when Voldiepoo goes and kills her I think that is when Snape decides to go good.

I hadn't thought of that. I was wondering why he turned good.

We learn something new about Professor Snape in each book. I'm sure the same will be true in books 6 and 7.

I've always thought that Snape was a good guy, apart from the first book, obviously.

ya i know he may seem really mean but he is just being mean to harry because of his hate for harry's father and i do think their is a lot to snape that don't know or have seen and i mean when harry told him in the fifth book ( after they get caught by umbridge when he was talking through the fire) harry told snape
" he's got padfoot he's got padfoot at the place it's hidden " and snape went and informed dumbledore right away. i mean he may seem bad but we probably only know the half of it .

In my opinion snape is a good guy.....I mean if he was still with Voldemort don't you guys thing he would have attempted to kill Harry by now? or at least lead him to Voldemort?..........The only reason Harry dosen't like him is because Snape gives Harry a hard time at Hogwarts but's that's Harry's fault. Harry get's ihimself into trouble so then Snape has to do something......Well sometimes Snape does some stuff that he should'nt but hey he's a hogwarts teacher....

Snape is uneccessarily nasty to Harry because he hated his father. It's not fair that he should take it out on Harry. But then in my opinion he had every right to hate James

But as I look at Snape's character now, I see that Snape kinda deserved what he got but Harry also deserves what Snape does to him....

The thing is that we only saw it from Snapes memory. We did not get to see the things that Snape did to James over the years.

We saw the memory with Snape's parents. I think the whole "battered childhood" thing is what turned him mean in the first place. Ever since he told Umbridge when Dumbledore hired him, I'm convinced he turned good (or back to good) because of Lily.
My parakeet acts like him, strangely enough. He's a runt and really good at fighting, so I can only assume that he was picked on by his siblings when he was a baby. Now he's mean, pecking my sister's bird all the time, wants everyone to bow down to his will, and he's the dominant one out of four. We had another bird that died, and him and mine were really good friends. My nanny has his brother, and mine puts up with his hyperactiveness, I'm assuming just because he was friends with his brother.
That's another parallel they have. Lily died and now he puts up with Harry more than he would have had he not been Lily's son. I don't see him saving his life if he weren't.

I'm comparing Snape to a bird...

Very interesting CD. I think Snape puts up with Harry only because he knows that Harry is the key to getting rid of Voldemort. He really can't see past his anger at James and to him James=Harry.
