Iraq now - violence and destruction or self rule and democracy or something else?

News coverage of Iraq is slowly disapearing in the UK. This could be for a number of reasons:

The media presume in my opinion wrongly that the majority of the public is now tired of the Iraq story and want to move on.

Iraqis are now running Iraq and everything is moving towards freedom, peace, prosperity and democracy so there is no story (or only bad news is good news for the media).

Or - has it become so dangerous and violent and lawless in Iraq that Western reporters cannot leave there hotels in Baghdad and so cannot report what's happening (except for an interesting story yesterday that said there is now a mass exodus of Iraqis escaping the country).

Has Iraq lost it's newsworthiness in the US or elswhere in the world?

I think Iraq has dropped from the headlines somewhat after the hand over of sovereignty. But still people are dying everyday. I think the attitude is, it's not the US military's fault anymore because the Iraqi's have "sovereignty." The simple fact is that eveything is still the same, just a new face is put on it. The US will probably show news only if a number of American soldiers are killed.

The news has always been crap to me anyway, never really showing news. 10,000 people died to in a forest fire. ...a minute later, In other news thinking of taking a vacation like the celebrites?....immediately after, The next plate of food could kill you!

The news has become too tabloid and it's blood and gore or sex that runs everything.
