Euro Scientist imprisoned for splicing human & primate DNA

A year or two ago there was a small article in the news about a scientist in Europe, I think it was France, who spliced human DNA with animal DNA, primates if I remember correctly. The article only said the "creature" was destroyed and the scientist was imprisoned, but it said no more than that.... Has anyone else heard more about this, or heard about it at all? I just wanted to know more about it and can't find anything on it.
